For all his hard work and talent, Nat 'King' Cole was treated to segregated concert halls, burning crosses and slurs. We know what he did do. We know what he didn't do (ask the NAACP). We know Kimye's wedding menu. But we don't know Nat 'King' Cole. This is what I WISH YOU LOVE seeks. To push through the mystique of this enigmatic performer to discover the flesh and blood underneath. I had the privilege of speaking with actor Dennis Spears, Mr. Cole himself.

Urban Stages , in association with producer/director/lyricist Peter Napolitano will kick off its Fifth Annual Winter Rhythms Benefit Series with Mary Martin: A Centennial Celebration on Tuesday, December 3 at 7pm.. Hosted by noted author Stephen Cole, this evening will pay tribute to the 100th Birthday of one of the greatest performers of the American Musical Theatre and the shows she starred in, including The Sound of Music, South Pacific, Peter Pan, etc. The show will be at Urban Stages Theatre (259 West 30th Street). He began playing the piano at the age of five or six with the likes of Duke Ellington and Count Basie being frequent visitors to his Chicago home in the 1930's. She became the youngest performer ever to grace the stage at the legendary Rainbow Room in the late 1990's. The old world of jazz and the next generation collide at Stamford's Palace Theatre on November 13th at 8 p.m. when Hilary Kole and Freddy Cole headline the third performance in the Courtyard by Marriott Stamford Broadway/Cabaret/Jazz Series: "Perfect Pairs at The Palace." The SoHo Playhouse (15 Vandam Street, NYC) announced today that tickets are on sale for the next show in its fall 2012 lineup: Ingenious Nature. Ingenious Nature is a new theatrical mix-tape, written and performed by Baba Brinkman, the Canadian rap artist, writer, and creator of The Canterbury Tales Remixed ("Delightful!" The New York Times) and The Rap Guide to Evolution (2011 Drama Desk Award Nominee), both of which played at the SoHo Playhouse in 2011. Ingenious Nature begins previews on Friday, November 23rd, opens Wednesday, December 5th and closes Sunday, January 6, 2013.

Alec Baldwin to Return to Broadway in ORPHANS - Spring 2013!

The New York Times is reporting that Alec Baldwin will return to Broadway in the Spring of 2013 in a new production of OPRHANS, to be directed by Tony-winner Daniel Sullivan. There is no word yet on a theatre or additional cast members for the production.

Arizona Theatre Company Appoints Mark Cole as New Managing Director

Arizona Theatre Company announced today that the Board of Trustees has appointed Mark Cole as the new Managing Director. Cole was formerly the General Manager of Miami City Ballet which performs in four cities in South Florida. A veteran of both the theatre and ballet world, he will begin full time duties on August 15, 2011. He succeeds Interim Managing Director Jessica L. Andrews, who has been filling the position since former Managing Director Kevin Moore left in October 2010 after 10 years with ATC.

Spears as Nat 'King' Cole, singing over 20 of Mr. Cole's beloved songs. This world premiere closes May 22, 2011.
