Today in 1980, the first Broadway revival of Camelot opened at the New York State Theatre, where it ran for 56 performances. Camelot is a musical by Alan Jay Lerner (book and lyrics) and Frederick Loewe (music). It is based on the King Arthur legend as adapted from the T. H. White tetralogy novel The Once and Future King. The original 1960 production, directed by Moss Hart and orchestrated by Robert Russell Bennett and Philip J. Lang, ran on Broadway for 873 performances, winning four Tony Awards and spawning several revivals, foreign productions and a 1967 film version. The 1980 cast starred Richard Burton, Christine Ebersole, and Richard Muenz.

Bay Street Players opens the final production of its 37th season tonight, July 6 with the immortal Camelot, music by Frederick Loewe, book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner. Based on the T.H. white novel The Once and Future King, Camelot tells the tale of King Arthur, Queen Guenevere, and the faithful and brave Sir Lancelot.

Last night, July 2, was the Bucks County Playhouse re-opening and ribbon cutting ceremony, as well as the first performance of Rodgers & Hammerstein's A Grand Night for Singing. The first production of the Bucks County Playhouse (BCP) 2012 summer season, A Grand Night for Singing will run through Sunday, July 29th. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place 73 years and a day after The Playhouse first opened in 1939. Special guests included Mayor Laurence Keller (New Hope), Chris Hart (son of Moss Hart), Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Cawley, Congressman Michael Fitzpatrick (U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 8th congressional district), and Will Hammerstein (Grandson of Oscar Hammerstein II). Due to a manufacturing issue, PS Classics has postponed the release of the Encores! cast recording of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG to July 10th. The 2-disc album, originally set to be released June 19th, features a 52-page full-color booklet, with essay, synopsis, lyrics, and over two dozen photos.
