Robert Vaughn to Star in Geva Theatre Center's YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU

By:

Geva Theatre Center announces that Robert Vaughn, star of stage and screen, will play the role of Martin Vanderhof in the opening production of its 40th Anniversary Season, the Pulitzer Prize winning play, You Can't Take It With You by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, in the Wilson Mainstage September 11 – October 7.

You Can't Take It With You is a classic screwball comedy that pits the eccentric Sycamore family - prone to spontaneous eruptions of music, dance poetry and fireworks – against the buttoned-up bigwigs of Wall Street and the IRS. When Alice Sycamore agrees to marry the son of ultra-conservative parents, will true love win out?

Although Robert Vaughn is most notable to television viewers for his portrayal of Napoleon Solo in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," his range of work demonstrates an extreme versatility having appeared in over 100 major motion pictures including The Young Philadelphians, for which he received an Academy Award nomination; Bullitt, for which he received a BAFTA; The Towering Inferno; Superman III; Excuse Me for Living; Happy Hour and the iconic film, The Magnificent Seven. In addition to "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," he has had prominent roles in some of the most acclaimed TV series of all time including "Dragnet;" "Gunsmoke;" "Mike Hammer;" "Bonanza;" "The Virginian;" "The Dick Van Dyke Show;" "The Lieutenant;" "Police Woman;" "Columbo;" "Trapper John, M.D.;" "The A Team;" "Hunter;" "Murder, She Wrote," "Law & Order" and many, many others.

He was awarded an Emmy for his portrayal of a presidential henchman in the TV mini-series "Washington: Behind Closed Doors." He received a second Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Woodrow Wilson in the miniseries "Backstairs at the White House" and has portrayed four other Presidents: Richard Nixon, Harry Truman, Teddy Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Other television work includes the mini-series "Inside the Third Reich," "The Blue and the Grey," "Centennial," "Evergreen," "Captains and Kings," "The Last Bastion," in which he played General Douglas MacArthur, "Silent Reach" and Disney's "Tracks of Glory." Most recently, he has appeared as Albert Stroller in seven seasons of the BBC/AMC Original Series Hustle.

Mr. Vaughn began his stage career at the age of twelve in the Famous Players tent shows in Iowa. He went on to become the resident director and leading man at the Albuquerque and Santa Fe Summerhouse Theaters in New Mexico, the Tustin Playbox in California and the Los Angeles Stage Society. Broadway credits include Love Letters with Polly Bergen. Other theatre credits include the Off-Broadway and national tour of Exonerated directed by Bob Balaban; Inherit the Wind with E.G. Marshall, which won the Showtime Award as the best play done outside of New York; FDR written by Dore Sharey, which was also filmed for HBO; Trumbo at the Cleveland Play House and Quartet at the Berkshire Festival.

Mr. Vaughn is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the Photoplay Gold Medal Award as the most popular actor in America which was presented to him by John Wayne.

You Can't Take It With You opens on September 11 and runs through October 7. Tickets are available through the Geva Box Office: 232-Geva (4382) or online at www.gevatheatre.org.
