Wagner's TANNHAUSER Opens Next Month at Lyric Opera of Chicago

Lyric Opera of Chicago presents Richard Wagner's majestic Tannhäuser conducted by Sir Andrew Davis in a new-to-Chicago production by Tim Albery. It opens on Monday, February 9 with seven performances through Friday, March 6. Performance dates are Feb. 9, 14, 18, 26, Mar. 2, and 6 at 6pm; and Feb. 22 at 1pm. (Note earlier curtain times.) Tannhäuser will be sung in German with projected English translations.

Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.

Alan Burkitt and Charlotte Gooch Lead TOP HAT at Theatre Royal Glasgow

Let's Face the Music and Dance with Top Hat at the Theatre Royal until Saturday 13 December. Stepping into the tap dancing shoes of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in the lead roles of Jerry Travers and Dale Tremont, are Alan Burkitt and Charlotte Gooch, who both return to Top Hat having previously performed these roles in the West End.

Nathan's Famous' and KaBOOM!' Come Together to Build Playground for Florida Community

Over 200 people came together this week in central Florida to roll up their sleeves, swing hammers and wield power tools all in an effort to build a brand new playground in just one day. Thanks to Nathan's Famous and KaBOOM!, along with support from the City of Kissimmee, Community Vision, and many volunteers, the youth and community of Kissimmee can now enjoy a new, Coney Island themed playspace. Designed by the real play experts local children the playground is located at the Mark E. Durbin Community Park at Lakeside, adjacent to Cypress Elementary School. It is the first playground funded by the world famous hot dog company and a key element of Ready. Set. PLAY., a special multi-faceted initiative launched by the company earlier this year in support of KaBOOM!.

BUS STOP Opens Tonight at Little Fish Theatre

Little Fish Theatre announced the opening of the final show of its thirteenth season, William Inge's acclaimed comedic drama, BUS STOP, tonight, Nov. 14-Dec. 13.

TOP HAT Coming to Theatre Royal Glasgow in December

Top Hat - winner of three Olivier Awards, for 'Best New Musical', 'Best Choreography', 'Best Costume Design' from its seven nominations - is enjoying an epic 47-week UK tour, visiting 24 theatres nationwide. From Tuesday 2 December Top Hat will be Puttin' on the Ritz at the Theatre Royal Glasgow.

Nathan's Famous and KaBOOM! Celebrate Local Students With Ready. Set. PLAY.

Nathan's Famous and KaBOOM! brought a piece of Coney Island to the students of Washington Elementary School and surrounding community this week. The world famous hot dog company and the national non-profit dedicated to giving kids the play they need to thrive honored the school by bringing their Ready. Set. PLAY. program to the Harvey, Ill., area. With the program, which was created earlier this year, Nathan's Famous and KaBOOM! have been able to celebrate active play and honor the "playmakers" who are making play possible in communities around the country.

A satirical and horrifying anti-war story, Slaughterhouse Five, carries a unique poignancy - and humor. A best seller when released, the novel brought Vonnegut to prominence as a major voice in American fiction. It has been adapted for the stage by Tony-nominated and Oscar-winning Eric Simonson and is directed by Custom Made Theatre's Artistic Director Brian Katz.

The performers are acting students aged 16-20 who come from schools across the United States including, The Drama Studio in Springfield, The Pioneer Valley Performing Arts High School in South Hadley, Bard College, Sarah Lawrence College, Arkansas State University and Bard College at Simons Rock. Shows are tonight, August 13 and Friday, August 15, both at 5:00 pm.

TOP HAT Will Return to London Prior to Launching UK tour

Top Hat, winner of three Olivier Awards, for 'Best New Musical', 'Best Choreography', 'Best Costume Design' from its seven nominations, and winner of the Evening Standard Award for 'Best Night Out', returns to London to open its new tour at New Wimbledon Theatre on Tuesday 12 August where it will run for two weeks until Saturday 23 August. The production then embarks on a major 47-week tour visiting theatres throughout the UK and in Ireland, until 25 July 2015.

BWW Interviews: MSMT Panel Explores Chamberlain Experience

Maine State Music Theatre hosted its second talkback in its series, 'A Peek Behind the Curtain,' on July 2, 2014, at the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick. The six-person panel moderated by BWW's Carla Maria Verdino-Sullwold, was comprised of Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark, Advisory Board and 'Angel' member Lee Gilman, Costume Rental Supervisor Amy Mussman, and actors James Patterson (Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain), Kathy Voytko (Fannie Chamberlain), and Sam Weber (Tom Chamberlain) explored the experience of creating the revival of Sarah Knapp and Steven M. Alper's musical, Chamberlain A Civil War Romance. The near-capacity crowd at the Morrell Reading Room was treated to a lively exchange among the panel members and audience, laced with the warmth, camaraderie, and obvious affection for the company and the work.
