The Side Project has announced it will present The Kindness of Strangers: A Festival of Storytelling. Forty storytellers will converge in a three-week festival featuring first-time and experienced tellers nightly, accompanied by live multi-instrumentalist, Matt Wills. The Festival, kicking off today, October 20, will run Sunday through Wednesday eves at 7:30pm through November 6.
State Theatre once again have another successful piece of theatre on their hands, with nods and words of approval flowing as the audience left the Dunstan Playhouse at the Adelaide Festival Centre.
Chromolume Theatre has announced its next production, The Musical of Musicals, The Musical! The show has a book by JoAnne Bogart and Eric Rockwell, music by Rockwell, and lyrics by Bogart, and will be directed for Chromolume by Kristin Towers-Rowles. With choreography by Anna Rubin and music direction by Richard Berent, opening is set for Friday, November 8 at 8pm. The Musical of Musicals will play a strictly limited engagement through December 8 only.
Storytelling - part acting, part writing and part solo performance piece - is possibly the world's oldest art form. The original medium for classics like Beowulf and Homer's Odyssey, storytelling as performance will be celebrated in 21st Century style in the side project's second Festival of Storytelling, Each night, three to four different artists will take the stage to perform 5- to 12-minute pieces, prior to a full-length story offered by one of the festival's three headliners. Multi-instrumentalist Matt Wills will provide musical accompaniment. The Festival, kicking off October 20 at The Side Project, will run Sunday through Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm through November 6.

Today, Mayor Landrieu, City officials, Canal Street Development Corporation, and representatives of ACE Theatrical Group celebrated the reopening of the historic Saenger Theatre at 1111 Canal Street following a $52 million restoration. Built in 1927 by noted New Orleans architect Emile Weil, the Saenger Theatre is a remarkable example of Italian Renaissance architecture and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was significantly damaged by Hurricane Katrina and has since been the focus of complex redevelopment through a public-private partnership between the City of New Orleans, Canal Street Development Corporation, and ACE Theatrical Group.
In October, The Grove will host Trance-Nosis and DangerMagik, a magic and hypnosis show, and Remembering The Ladies, a show honoring the ladies in on screen history.

The show has been said to be aimed towards Broadway since it first opened, with American producers on board from day one. Today, Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post that 'Tune, now 74, is getting back in the game. At the behest of his good friend Jimmy Nederlander, a theater legend in his own right, Tune's in London inspecting a new show called 'Top Hat.'

Top Hat won three 2013 Laurence Olivier awards for Best New Musical, Best Choreography (Bill Deamer), and Best Costume design (Jon Morrell) at the ceremony held on April 28. Bringing the prestigious statuette back to the US are Broadway producers Stewart F. Lane, Ted Hartley and Bonnie Comley. Scroll down for a photo of the producers with their award!
