getTV Salutes 20th Century Pioneers In Honor Of Black History Month

This month, getTV is commemorating Black History Month with a salute the 20thCentury's pioneers who triumphantly overcame societal barriers and paved the way for today's generation of artists and entertainers in the areas of drama, comedy and music.

The Old Globe today announced that its 2018-2019 Season will kick off with the world premiere of the new musical Heart of Rock and Roll, inspired by the songs of Huey Lewis and the News, featuring a book by Jonathan Abrams and story by Tyler Mitchell and Jonathan Abrams. It will be directed by Gordon Greenberg with choreography by Lorin Latarro and music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Brian Usifer. Heart of Rock and Roll will bepresented by special arrangement with Tyler Mitchell, W. Leo Kiely, Bill Kiely, Whitney Kiely Moehle, and Tamar Climan. The three-part series Monochrome: Black, White & Blue featuring Morgan Freeman, Chuck Berry, Bill Wyman, B.B. King, Jake Bugg, Carlos Santana, Ronnie Wood, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and many more, will explore the deep-routed history of blues music in America - available exclusively on Prime Video, through Amazon Video Direct, from Monday February 12, 2018.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced complete casting today for the world premiere of MLIMA'S TALE, written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage. Directed by Obie Award winner Jo Bonney, MLIMA'S TALE continues The Public's Astor Anniversary Season at their landmark downtown home on Lafayette Street, celebrating 50 years of new work and the 50th Anniversary of HAIR. MLIMA'S TALE begins performances on Tuesday, March 27 and runs through Sunday, May 20 in The Public's Martinson Hall, with an official press opening on Sunday, April 15.

America's Musical Journey, produced in association with Brand USA and presented by Expedia, will be opening in select museums and institutions beginning February 16 th. The film celebrates the rich cultural diversity of America as seen through the story of its music.

Disney's 2018 holiday feature film THE NUTCRACKER AND THE FOUR REALMS debuted an all-new teaser trailer and four new images this morning. Directed by Lasse Hallstr m and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann's classic tale, the film opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 2, 2018.
