HAVING OUR SAY is a staged memoir of the Delany Sisters, two women who experienced the Civil Rights Movement and lived to be over 100 years old and tell the tale. This quiet, comfortable play invites the audience to the sister's home as they prepare a meal on stage and recount their extraordinary lives.

DESSA ROSE By Ahrens And Flaherty Will Have a Concert Performance At Olney Theatre

Dessa Rose, the second installment of Olney Theatre Center's Applause Concert series bows for its single performance on Friday, March 6 at 8:00pm on the Mainstage. The musical, presented in a concert recital directed by Monique Midgette is a 2005 work by the famed duo Lynne Ahrens (Book and Lyrics) and Stephen Flaherty (Music) based on the 1986 novel by Sherley Ann Williams. Christopher Youstra, Olney Theatre's Associate Artistic Director/Director of Music Theatre and the series curator serves as music director and conductor. Awa Sal Secka plays the title role, Gracie Jones co-stars as Ruth. Members of the cast of Miss You Like Hell fill-in the supporting roles. Limited tickets remain. BWW Feature: Lyric Theatre Celebrates the Famous Delany Sisters in HAVING OUR SAY

HAVING OUR SAY tells the story of the Delany sisters, two sisters who were born to a former slave and grew up in the Jim Crow South. The Delany sisters both lived to be over 100 years old, and wrote their version of events in the 1993 biography that inspired the play. Lyric's production features two Broadway stars in the roles of Bessie and Sadie.

Adventure Creates Assistant Directors Fellowship for People of Color

Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC), recent recipient of the Weissberg Foundation's 2016-2019 Fund for Diversity in Theater to engage and expand new voices and audiences in DC-area theatres, announces its commitment to a goal of 50% people of color representation (artists, designers and technicians) in its professional theatre season to better reflect the diversity of our audiences and community. This commitment is part of its EDI initiatives which includes a new Fellowship program for Assistant Directors who are people of color and working with a consensus organizer on its production of Huckleberry Finn's Big River. Recognizing a need in the industry for equity and diversity and to reflect the highly diverse DC and Montgomery County area, Adventure Theatre MTC has already upheld this commitment with its current production of Blueberries for Sal cast and creative team.

Ford's Theatre Society Announces Cast for THE WIZ

Ford's Theatre Society announced full casting and design team for The Wiz directed by Kent Gash, choreographed by Dell Howlett and withMusic Direction and Orchestration by Darius Smith. The production features Ines Nassara as Dorothy, Hasani Allen as Scarecrow, Kevin McAllister as Tinman,Christopher Michael Richardson as Lion and Jobari Parker-Namdar as The Wiz. The musical plays March 9 to May 12, 2018, at historic Ford's Theatre. The production is recommended for ages eight and older.
