Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that Broadway Producer Jeffrey Richards will be producing a Broadway transfer of The Public's Merchant of Venice, which will play Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte this summer starring Al Pacino. Richards has suffered a mostly disappointing 2010 so far, being the leading force behind this season's All About Me and Enron, both of which only lasted a mere few weeks on Broadway. Richards and his producing partner, Jerry Frankel are, however, also behind the successful Race, which has already recouped on Broadway.
Today, in honor of the DVD release of Rob Marshall's film version of the 1982 Tony-winning Best Musical NINE, Maury Yeston was gracious and generous enough to grant me a few hours in which I could ask him intimate questions about his life, career and the future of theatre itself. Not one to mince words, Yeston is a veritable font of knowledge and it became clear during the interview that he may be as gifted and talented in his educational and mentorship skills as he is as a two-time Tony-winning composer and lyricist. His stage musicals include two Tony-winning Best Musicals, NINE and TITANIC, as well as: IN THE BEGINNING, GRAND HOTEL, PHANTOM, and the forthcoming DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY, as well as a full-length ballet of TOM SAWYER premiering later this year. From the handwritten letter sent by Katharine Hepburn to Frederico Fellini after seeing the workshop of NINE thirty years ago to this very day when NINE hits DVD, we will take a look at this magnanimous maestro's starry career in this inaugural InDepth InterView. Enjoy!

In a presentation titled, 'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog,' Michael Riedel talks about his publications (1997-2009) on the occasion of his new release Meckert (Koenig Books). Using numerous pictures and sound recordings, the latter in the form of transcribed texts, Meckert continues the artist's series of publications (Scheißen und Brunzen, 2000; Oskar, 2003; Johnson - Robert, 2004; Tirala, 2006; Gedruckte und nicht gedruckte Poster, 2008; amongst others), which are published as independent works parallel to his exhibitions. Catherine, Tuesday, Fiontan, and Mieke are four new texts that were recorded during his exhibitions in Cork, New York, London, and Basel, respectively. The dialogues come from phone calls, in which the current situation at each exhibition is described.
