Beer, food and music will be on tap for the Oakland East Bay Symphony second annual Bach & Brew event scheduled this year for tonight, June 13, from 4 to 7 pm at Drakes Brewery, 1933 Davies Street, San Leandro, 94577. As part of the special offerings for the evening, Drakes will brew a limited-edition “Symphony Beer,” having selected a recipe from one of Oakland East Bay Symphony's many musicians who are avid home brewers to be sold at this event. Other Drakes's beers and food will be available for purchase, and members of the Oakland East Bay Symphony, conducted by Michael Morgan, will perform throughout the event including, of course, music by Bach and others. Last season, 400 Symphony and epicurean enthusiasts attended the inaugural Oakland East Bay Symphony Bach & Brew event, making it a sold-out success.

Oakland, CA, April 21, 2015 – Music Director and Conductor Michael Morgan and the Oakland East Bay Symphony have announced an unusually eclectic season for 2015-2016 including premieres, guest artists and music spanning 300 years from Bach to today in seven concerts at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. Highlights of the 27th season include guest artists Kenneth Renshaw, Vân-Ánh Vanessa Võ, Tracy Silverman And Amy Likar Plus Toland Vocal Arts Competition And Young Artist Competition Winners. In keeping with its programming philosophy of presenting an insightful and innovative palette of music that represents a variety of traditions—and creating a few—Maestro Morgan and the Symphony will perform music by Mason Bates, John Adams, Martin Rokeach, David Conte, Bendix, Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Bernstein, Cherubini, Stravinsky, Ravel and Frank Sinatra. Of special note are thematic programs including Notes From Vietnam, which will introduce audiences to music and guest artists from symphonic traditions other than the mainstream, a new annual “Lost Romantics” series in which Morgan will conduct gorgeous and compelling but somewhat forgotten music by composers who were better known in their time than ours and vocal soloists who have won the Oakland-based James Toland Vocal Competition in their debuts. With the thundering applause of thousands of greater Sacramento children still reverberating in the Community Center Theater, the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera (SacPhil & Opera) announced today “Art Invasion 2015” -- 7 weeks of musical pop-up performances by SacPhil & Opera instrumental and choral musicians bringing music to every nook and cranny of Sacramento. Members of the Oakland East Bay Symphony will partner with Oakland's beloved Blue Bottle Coffee for “Cup of Classical” Thursday, April 2, at 6:30 pm at Blue Bottle's W.C. Morse Café, 4270 Broadway in Oakland. The casual, mid-week after-work event will pair a coffee-related classical and contemporary music program with tastings and demonstrations of Blue Bottle products by James Freeman, founder of Blue Bottle Coffee, and conversation in the unique Oakland atmosphere of W.C. Morse Café, located in an historic storefront in the Temescal neighborhood. The Pacific Arts Trio--Alice Lenaghan, flute,Dan Reiter, cello, and Natalie Cox, harp—comprising members of the Oakland East Bay Symphony will perform music by Ravi Shankar, Vivaldi, Debussy, Albeniz, Wil Offermans (based on traditional Japanese shakuhachi music) and Dan Reiter's original Celtic Suite.
