Espionage and the Cold-War politics of the 1970s come into play in this riveting drama. The setting, an ornate room in a former Archbishop's Eastern European palace, is probably bugged by the secret police. Sigmund, a writer, has embarrassed the current regime. With his career in jeopardy, he is faced with the choice of staying on in an attempt to rebuild trust, or defecting to the West. He is encouraged to leave the country by one friend who is an ex-political prisoner, and another who is a visiting American. The situation is further complicated by a woman, the occasional mistress of all three. The complexity of their relationships, and the uncertainty that what they say may be overheard, makes for a rich and deeply intriguing play.

The cast features Michael Morgan (Sigmund), William Hahn (Marcus), Rodney Lizcano (Adrian), Heather Lacy (Maya), and Adrian Egolf (Irina).

In addition to director, Brett Aune, the creative team includes Brian Mallgrave (scenic design), Clare Henkel (costume design), Jon Olson (light design), Grant Evenson (sound design), Meghan Markiewicz (props mistress), and Diana Ben-Kiki (wig and make-up design).

The Arvada Center will offer a Theater Salon series for adults during the run of The Archbishop's Ceiling. The salon is facilitated by Sasha Fisher, recipient of London's Time Out Critics' Choice Award for her work in classical theater. Participants will spend four weeks exploring the script including scene study, character development and the play's overall themes and objectives. The salon runs four consecutive Wednesday evenings March 11 - April 1 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The series will include a visit from the directing staff and/or actors performing in the production of The Archbishop's Ceiling and attendance at the evening performance on April 1 at 7:30 p.m. Tuition is $60 plus one ticket to The Archbishop's Ceiling on April 1 ($26) for a total cost of $86.
