The Museum of the Moving Image's popular series See It Big! will turn its focus to the movie musical with a fourteen-film celebration of the genre, from January 24 through February 28, 2014. Musicals are, by their very nature, filled with spectacle. They are heightened forms of storytelling, in which the narrative is amplified by song and dance, where characters express their innermost feelings in the most extravagant ways imaginable. Hennepin Theatre Trust today announced its stellar and far-ranging new 2014-2015 Thrivent Financial Broadway on Hennepin season, featuring Broadway's hottest Tony Award-winning shows, five Minnesota premieres and many classic favorites. Making their local debuts are Kinky Boots, winner of six 2013 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Pippin, the 2013 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical Revival and the record-breaking hit Motown The Musical. The season runs from August 2014 through August 2015 at the historic Orpheum, State and Pantages Theatres.

A high-octane troupe of stellar dancers towing the lines of classical and contemporary movement, Rasta Thomas' Bad Boys of Dance features "fast and furious pop dancers steeped in ballet basics" (Chicago Tribune). Appearing on the stage at Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, February 20-22, the company's fast-paced 80-minute signature program is performed by six male and two female dancers to a soundtrack of popular music from Kanye West, Michael Jackson, Coldplay, The Beatles, Robin Thicke, Usher, Queen, Justin Timberlake and more.

Nick Brandt's transcendent images of African wildlife create a strikingly intimate connection with the animals he photographs. The National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, Wyo., opens the exhibition 'Elegy: The African Photography of Nick Brandt, 2001 - 2008' today, January 18, 2014, presenting a selection of these animal portraits that capture Brandt's individualized view of the animals within the context of their environment. The exhibition will be on display in the museum's King Gallery throughout Jackson Hole's busy ski season and will close on April 20, 2014.

The Grammy-winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo will stop in Storrs on a U.S. tour with its latest album Always With Us Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014. The group with the Zulu sound of a single voice despite a thick stack of harmonies, made popular on this continent three decades ago via Paul Simon's Graceland album, will also deliver a tribute to Nelson Mandela in its 8 p.m. performance at Jorgensen.

After a busy 2013 year selling out shows worldwide of the artwork of international pop artist Nelson De La Nuez, Bruce Lurie, owner of Lurie Gallery, is excited for a great start to 2014. His booths #1020-1121 South Hall at the LA Art Show, January 15-19, 2014, will feature a good mix of De La Nuez paintings, mostly all hand painted mixed media on canvas and a few of his very popular resin on wood pieces.
