A.R. Gurney & Carmen de Lavallade to Receive Lifetime Achievement Honors at 61st Annual Obie Awards

The American Theatre Wing and The Village Voice have announced that legendary actor/dancer/choreographer Carmen de Lavallade and renowned playwright A.R. Gurney will each receive a special Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 61st Annual Obie Awards, which will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). NINE, MAJOR BARBARA, Kurt Weill Show and More Set for SU Drama's 2016-17 Season

The Syracuse University Department of Drama packs three musicals, a wild comedy, a classic Shaw, and a never-before-produced contemporary comedy into a season full of surprises and infrequently performed theatrical gems. Beginning with the musical Nine, the 2016/2017 season includes Laura and the Sea, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins (co-produced with Syracuse Stage), The King Stag, Major Barbara, and From Berlin to Broadway With Kurt Weill: A Musical Voyage. 

Lea DeLaria to Return as Host for 61st Annual Obie Awards!

The American Theatre Wing and The Village Voice have confirmed that the 61st Annual Obie Awards will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). Obie and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria will return as the host. Tickets to the 2016 Obie Awards will be announced at a later date.

Drama Critics Brian Eugenio Herrera and Chris Jones Receive 2015 George Jean Nathan Award

The George Jean Nathan Award Committee has chosen two recipients of the 2014-15 prize for the year's best work in dramatic criticism. Brian Eugenio Herrera is receiving the award for his book Latin Numbers: Playing Latino in Twentieth-Century U.S. Popular Performance (University of Michigan, 2015). Chris Jones has been chosen for his work as theater critic for the Chicago Tribune.

The Signature Theatre's Founding Artistic Director James Houghton received the OBIE Award for Sustained Achievement. 2015 New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards Go to HAMILTON and More Tonight

The New York Drama Critics' Circle previously named Between Riverside and Crazy, by Stephen Adly Guirgis, best play of the 2014-15 season. Hamilton was named best musical. The selections were made at the organization's 80th annual voting meeting, at the offices of Time Out New York in Manhattan. The awards will be presented at a private cocktail reception tonight, May 19.

Knight, three-time OBIE Award-winner Tony Kushner, OBIE Award-winner LaChanze, two-time OBIE Award-winner Lisa Kron, artist Bradley Theodore, OBIE Award-winner William Ivey Long, and Village Voice editor-in-chief Tom Finkel. A Noise Within's THE THREEPENNY OPERA and JULIUS CAESAR Enter Final Weeks

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, presents the final weeks of its 2015 Spring repertory season with The Threepenny Opera, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's groundbreaking theatrical work in Michael Feingold's translation (which has become the most popular production in the history of A Noise Within), now playing through May 27, the Los Angeles Times Critic's Choice Figaro by Charles Morey, freely adapted from Le Mariage de Figaro by Beaumarchais in its West Coast premiere now through May 10, and the Ovation-Recommended Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, in its final extension through May 24.
