Perseverance Theatre has announced the formation of The Writer's Circle. Perseverance Theatre has awarded participation into The Writer's Circle to five playwrights. The award includes commission, including development support, for a two-year period of time to write and develop a new Alaskan play.

BLOOMSDAY, by Steven Dietz, enjoying a regional premiere through April 23rd at Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, centers around a missed love connection between a 20-year-old American tourist, Robbie, and a 20-year-old Irish tour guide, Caithleen.

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati (ETC) closes its 31st season with a trip to Ireland in the regional premiere of Bloomsday by award-winning playwright Steven Dietz. Set against the backdrop of James Joyce's groundbreaking modernist novel Ulysses, an American man searches for the Irish woman who first captured his heart 35 years earlier during a Bloomsday walking tour in Dublin. This lyrical, intriguing drama transports audiences into a world of history, humor, and heartache to explore a love affair that might have been. Playing April 4-23, 2017. The world premiere of the mysterious and suspenseful new play Summerland by Arlitia Jones debuts Feb. 4 and runs through March 5 at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's Thompson Shelterhouse Theatre.

Perseverance Theatre's lively stage adaptation of the beloved Dickens' classic is only at the PAC. It features live music, singing, and dancing along with gorgeous sets and costumes. And of course, ghosts! A Christmas Carol, adapted from Charles Dickens' original text by Arlitia Jones and Michael Evan Haney, brings magic, music, and transformation when Ebenezer Scrooge, played by Anchorage's Kevin T. Bennett, is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. Dickens reminds us that it's never to late to change. Alaska Dispatch News says Perseverance Theatre's A Christmas Carol has "A gorgeous set, ambitious sound effects, and excellent acting."  

Veteran director Wendy C. Goldberg, who has had a decade-long relationship with the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, will join the Playhouse's Associate Artist program for the 2017-18 season.

Few playwrights tackle the subject of HIV/AIDS like Terrence McNally. Watching a generation wither away before his eyes has led him to explore the impact it has had in a number of works. One is ANDRE'S MOTHER, a short play which he was asked to expand. But, McNally opted to continue the story into the present day, and that choice acts to remind us that those left behind still suffer the pain of having lost a loved one, no matter how much time has passed, or how much things have changed medically and culturally. Although a handful of playwrights have used elements from Anton Chekhov's canon of classics (such as Neil Simon's The Good Doctor), I can't think of any other writer who's displayed such ingenuity in incorporating bits and pieces from his work the way that Christopher Durang has in his play VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE. Referencing Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters, The Seagull, and The Cherry Orchard, Durang has put together a show that's so absurdly funny it hurts! It's not a parody of Chekhov, but instead neatly walks a tightrope that utilizes these traces in enjoyable and amusing ways that act to provide an intelligent depth that engages while it entertains. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis closes their season on a gloriously high note that will make you wish their productions continued year round. Don't miss this hilarious show!
