ArtsEmerson presents the world premiere of Melinda Lopez's one-woman play MALA. Ostensibly autobiographical, it is an honest representation of the ups and downs of one woman's journey as she bears witness to the most ordinary, shared human experience, the act of dying. As playwright, she incorporates a cultural sensibility; as actor, she is deeply in touch with the mixed emotions that are part and parcel of this bumpy ride. This full-length monologue is powerful and compelling.

Shattered Globe Theatre will conclude its 2016-17 Season with the Chicago premiere of Sarah Ruhl's FOR PETER PAN ON HER 70th BIRTHDAY, written for her mother Kathleen, a Chicago actress who played Peter Pan onstage as a teenager. Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, announces the lineup for its sixth annual Crossing Borders festival of new plays by Latino writers. Crossing Borders will take place August 3-7, 2016 and will include play readings, audience discussions, a keynote address from a leader within the Latino arts community, and a neighborhood kickoff party with food and live music. A company of actors, writers, directors, and other artists will be in residence throughout the festival. The Huntington Theatre Company's annual Summer Workshop will start rehearsals on July 12 and conclude in public readings of three new plays on July 23 and 24, 2016. The workshop allows selected members of the Huntington Playwriting Fellows program two weeks to focus on developing new plays. Directed by Steppenwolf Artistic Producer Jonathan Berry, the Chicago premiere production features ensemble member Jon Michael Hill as 'Roland' (CBS's Elementary, Steppenwolf's Superior Donuts). Casting for the role of 'Marianne' will be announced at a later date. Constellations debuted in London at the Royal Court to critical acclaim before moving on to successful runs in both The West End and on Broadway.
