Alan Mason, Jennifer Mondie, Trine Sorensen, and Alan D. Valentine have been appointed to the League of American Orchestras' Board of Directors. The League is a membership organization comprised of more than 2,000 orchestras and individuals from across North America. The four new board members were elected by League members during the organization's annual meeting in June. Each will serve three-year terms.

The quirky comedy centers on successful artist Dana Fielding whose latest gallery opening does not hit a home run with the critics. Combine that self-doubt with the departure of her boyfriend, she attempts suicide and ends up in a mental institution. It is there that she finds solace in the structured days with a couple of unlikely teammates - a psychopath and an alcoholic. But when her insurance company will only pay for ten days, they cook up a scheme to outplay the health care system. Without knowing much about him, Dana takes on the personality of the bad boy of baseball, Darryl Strawberry, who also struggled with the darker side of fame, rejection by the fans. Gilman's play reflects on how we measure success and failure, our own identity and being who you want to be.
MTV today announced that global superstar Jennifer Lopez will receive the "Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award" at the 2018 MTV "VMAs." She is also set to perform live at this year's show for the first time since 2001 and is nominated for two "VMAs" for her most recent single, "Dinero." BRIC has announced full programming for the 2018 BRIC JazzFest, the fourth annual edition of the celebrated Brooklyn jazz festival, whichcontinues a yearlong celebration to cap off four decades for the pioneering NYC arts-and-media organization and leading presenter of free cultural programming in Brooklyn. The multidisciplinary festival takes place over the course of a week (October 13-20) and thrives as what the New Yorker calls a "proudly eclectic gathering [that] remains unbounded by convention." This year's edition will feature film, dance, a panel discussion, workshops, and culminates with a three-night concert marathon, with performances occurring simultaneously throughout the various spaces comprising the dynamic BRIC House (647 Fulton Street, Brooklyn). For its 40th anniversary, BRIC has commissioned rising star trumpeter Keyon Harrold to write a new piece of music which will have its world premiere at the 2018 BRIC JazzFest.

The Paley Center for Media announced today that it will host its 12th annual PaleyFest Fall TV Previews September 6-16, 2018, at the Paley Center's Beverly Hills location. PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES was my first Broadway musical, so it not only holds a special place in my heart, but I still remember most of the lyrics. Running for 577 performances in 1982-83 and earning a Tony nomination for Best Musical, PUMP BOYS was 'the little show that could' with just six cast members and a small set. But the characters and songs captured many fans who came out to relive the experience at Feinstein's/54 Below July 22.
