Audra McDonald can now add wedding singer to her resume (alongside winning four Tony Awards). On Sunday, July 24, McDonald was the guest singer at the same-sex wedding of a Bloomberg administration staffer at Gracie Mansion. Bloomberg himself officiated the ceremony. Due to popular demand, La Jolla Playhouse today announced a one-week extension for Sleeping Beauty Wakes, book by Tony Award-winning librettist Rachel Sheinkin (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), with a score by composer Brendan Milburn and lyricist Valerie Vigoda, both of the acclaimed trio GrooveLily (Striking 12, Long Story Short), and directed by Rebecca Taichman.

American Opera Projects (AOP) and Opera New Jersey reunite sopranos Lauren Flanigan and Catherine Malfitano in The Family Room, a new one-act opera written especially for them by composer Thomas Pasatieri (The Seagull ) with an original libretto by Daphne Malfitano. The dark drama tells the story of two nameless women living in a windowless studio who speak of dinner parties and relatives, of husbands and love and a child named Georgie, but their only company is ominous sounds from above.

Tony Award winner Ben Vereen is traveling from Los Angeles to Houston, Texas today to be a special guest performer in The Musical Theatre of Houston's JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. Vereen will star as Pontius Pilate in a production directed and choreographed by Aaron Callies. The curtain rises for two shows August 19-20 at the Wortham Brown Theatre at 8:00pm both evenings and will include a cast of Sam Brown as Jesus, Jacqueline Grady as Mary Magdalene, and Tommie Harper as Judas.

La Jolla Playhouse has announced that the acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival production of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, lyrics by Tim Rice, music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, directed by Playhouse Director Emeritus and Stratford Shakespeare Festival Artistic Director Des McAnuff, will replace the previously-announced musical Finding Neverland. This thrilling revival will run in the Mandell Weiss Theatre November 18 - December 31, 2011.
