OPERA America Welcomes New Chairman & Members to Board of Directors

 OPERA America, the national service organization for opera and the nation's leading champion for American opera, is pleased to announce that Timothy O'Leary, general director of Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, has been elected the new chairman of OPERA America's board of directors. He has been involved with OPERA America since 2006, when he participated in Leadership Advance, one of the organization's professional development programs. He joined OPERA America's board in 2011. O'Leary was elected chairman at OPERA America's recent annual business meeting — held during Opera Conference 2016 in Montreal — where eight new members were also elected to the board and three current members were re-elected to three-year terms. 

Greenfield Prize Commissioned BATHING IN MOONLIGHT Announces its Cast

The Hermitage Artist Retreat is pleased to announce that its coveted Greenfield Prize Commission, play BATHING IN MOONLIGHT by Nilo Cruz, is set to premiere in Princeton, NJ this fall at McCarter Theatre Center's Roger S. Berlind Theatre. The 2014 Greenfield Prize in drama is a $30,000 commission in exchange for a new work to be presented within two years.

Cast Announced for McCarter's World Premiere of BATHING IN THE MOONLIGHT

When Father Monroe discovers that Marcela and her Cuban-American family are struggling, he offers a warmth and kindness unlike anything Marcela has ever experienced. Small acts of generosity blossom into love as the lines between vocation and passion begin to blur. McCarter Theatre Center Artistic Director Emily Mann and playwright Nilo Cruz reunite for the first time since the Pulitzer Prize-winning Anna in the Tropics with this lyrical new play about falling in love and finding a place to call home. 

Huntington Theatre Company to Open Stephen Sondheim's SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE This Fall

The Huntington Theatre Company will open its 2016-2017 season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Sunday in the Park with George, Stephen Sondheim's stunning masterpiece about love, inspiration, and "the art of making art." Huntington Artistic Director Peter DuBois (A Little Night Music) will direct. Performances will run September 9 - October 16, 2016 at the Avenue of the Arts / BU Theatre. Tickets are now on sale to the general public.

Megan McGinnis to Star in SENSE AND SENSIBILITY at The Old Globe; Cast, Creatives Set!

The Old Globe has announced the complete cast and creative team for the West Coast premiere of Paul Gordon's delightfully romantic new musical SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, developed with Rick Boynton and presented in association with Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where it was commissioned and had its world premiere in April 2015.

Chance Theater's SPEAK UP Summer Education Program Returns

The official resident theater company of Anaheim, Chance Theater is proud to announce the commencement of its 11th summer of their groundbreaking and transformative Speak Up: Take a 'Chance' education program for students grades 7-12. Over the course of this year's Speak Up, our young artists will build their storytelling skills and gain a larger sense of community as they voice experiences and create their own original play under the guidance of Chance Theater Artists. Led by Education Director Karen O'Hanlon and Producing Associate for our TYA series Darryl Hovis, Speak Up will begin on June 20 and culminate in four public performances on July 23 and 24 at 11:00 am and 6:00pm.

Jenna Ushkowitz and Michael Bakkensen Lead Reading of Jeff Stolzer's POWER PLAYS

Michael Bakkensen, who delighted audiences on Broadway in Noises Off and The Man Who Came to Dinner, and Jenna Ushkowitz, the award-winning actress known for playing Tina Cohen-Chang on the Fox television series Glee and for her roles in numerous Broadway musicals, including The King and I and Spring Awakening, will star in a private, industry-only reading of Jeff Stolzer's POWER PLAYS, a new comedy-drama.

Dreamcatcher Repertory Company Announces New Season

Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, in residence at Oakes Center at 120 Morris Avenue in Summit, is announcing its 2016-2017 season.  This professional company will bring three productions, including two New Jersey premieres, to the stage in addition to improvisational comedy, new play readings, a holiday variety show and many programs for seniors and students.  As always, the Dreamcatcher Resident Acting Company and their guests will tell stories that reflect our shared experience of being human with heart and humor.

West Coast Premiere of Tennessee Williams' BABY DOLL Set for Fountain Theatre, 7/16-8/29

This summer, L.A. audiences get to see a brand new play by Tennessee Williams. Simon Levy directs the West Coast premiere of Baby Doll, adapted by Pierre Laville and Emily Mann from the 1956 Academy Award-nominated film of the same name - the first-ever Williams Estate-approved adaptation of this Williams screenplay. Baby Doll opens at the Fountain Theatre on July 16, starring Daniel Bess, Karen Kondazian, Lindsay LaVanchy, John Prosky and George Roland.

Sundance Institute Sets Projects for Screenwriters Lab, Documentary Edit and Story Labs & New Theatre-Makers Residency

Sundance Institute has selected 25 projects to participate in its Screenwriters Lab, Documentary Edit and Story Labs and new Theatre-Makers Residency, which will take place concurrently this summer in the mountains of the Sundance Resort in Utah. The confluence of these three artist development programs will provide Fellows the unprecedented opportunity to experience portions of the other Labs and will support a cross-pollination of creativity and personal expression across different storytelling forms.

McCarter Theatre Center to Host 15th Annual Sallie B. Goodman Artists' Retreat

McCarter Theatre Center is proud to welcome a group of esteemed and emerging playwrights and their artistic collaborators to Princeton for its annual ten-day Sallie B. Goodman Artists' Retreat. The Retreat is a centerpiece of McCarter's LAB platform which is devoted to the ongoing theatrical development of new plays, musicals and re-explored classics. The retreat runs from June 5th through June 14th.
