Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe today joined City Council Member Diana Reyna, Assembly Member Joseph Lentol and students from P.S. 132 and M.S. 126 to plant a tree in celebration of Arbor Day at Sternberg Park in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The tree - a Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) - is located close to a new dog run that is currently in construction at the park.

On Saturday, April 24th, Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, Chief Service Officer Diahann Billings-Burford and Department for the Aging Deputy Commissioner Caryn Resnick joined over 130 New York City volunteers to plant trees in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx as part of MillionTreesNYC Spring Planting Day 2010.

As part of MillionTreesNYC Spring Planting Day 2010, over 5,000 trees were planted on Friday, April 23rd in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx by volunteers from the Disney Corporation; Central Park in Manhattan; and Arden Heights Woods with volunteers from the New York City League of Hotel Concierges, the Staten Island Developmental Disabilities Services Office, and the Greenbelt on Staten Island.
