Songbook Sundays, created and hosted by Deborah Grace Winer celebrating the American Songbook will continue at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club with Baby, It’s Frank Loesser on Sunday, January 21st at 5 PM and 7:30 PM  

I had the opportunity to chat with Manny Tsakanika And Ross Sands, two of the performers who have been with Magic Mike Live for the entirety of its five-year run. We discussed what it has been like to see the show grow, what made them want to be a part of it, and what they hope audience members take away from their experience.

Devon Ross has shared her single, “Killer.” Featuring a vocal reminiscent of Patti Smith and a thrashing, guitar driven instrumental a-la Television, the track harkens to classic proto-punk recordings. The release comes as Ross prepares for her first concert, opening for The Thurston Moore Group at London’s legendary 100 CLUB on December 13, 2023.

Cincinnati May Festival has named Matthew Swanson as new Director of Choruses for the 2024-25 season.

The Blue Note Quintet—a collective comprised of Blue Note recording artists pianist and musical director Gerald Clayton, alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, vibraphonist Joel Ross, and drummer Kendrick Scott, as well as bassist Matt Brewer—will embark on an extensive North American tour next month in celebration of Blue Note’s 85th Anniversary.

One of the strangest coincidences of modern musical theatre is the fact that its two foremost composers, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Stephen Sondheim, share a birthday, March 22.  To honor these men and their unparalleled contributions to the Great White Way, an array of Broadway’s brightest stars will come together to perform songs by both composers at the Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, California on March 28th.

Following an extensive national search, the Cincinnati May Festival has announced Matthew Swanson as its next Director of Choruses. Swanson will begin his term on June 1, 2024 and lead the storied May Festival Chorus, one of America's most active symphonic choruses.

The Ross McKee Foundation has announced the laureates of its 26th Annual Ross McKee Piano Competition, Claire Chang (14), Tyler Chew (16), Ariel Chien (16) and Emma Lai (17). Each laureate receives a prize of $1,500 and participates in the Competition's final concert on December 17.
