Lyric Stage's BYE BYE BIRDIE, 1961's Best Musical Tony Award winner, opens tonight at the Irving Arts Center's Carpenter Performance Hall. Lyric Stage's production will feature a 31 piece orchestra playing Robert Ginzler's original Broadway orchestrations.
The Column Awards, a 501(c)3 nonprofit honoring excellence in theater in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, presented its 11th annual awards last night in Carpenter Hall at the Irving Arts Center. Uptown Players and Plaza Theatre Company tied for most wins with 10 each. In all, 17 theaters companies shared 62 awards, divided between Equity and non-Equity productions.
Following last season?s triumph of Rodgers & Hammerstein?s Carousel, Lyric Stage Founding Producer Steven Jones has reunited director Cheryl Denson and music director Jay Dias for the world premiere of the newly restored The King and I, featuring a 35-piece orchestra playing the original Robert Russell Bennett orchestrations.
