Winsome Brown's HIT THE BODY ALARM to Play The Performing Garage This Fall

Winsome Brown, the actress and writer who enjoyed considerable success with her solo play THIS IS MARY BROWN at La MaMa last year, returns to the stage with her newest work, HIT THE BODY ALARM, presented by The Performing Garage (33 Wooster St.), with previews set to begin September 20 prior to the solo play's official opening night September 22. Directed by Brad Rouse and Winsome Brown, HIT THE BODY ALARM is scheduled to run through October 2, 2016.

La MaMa will present the world-premiere of THIS IS MARY BROWN - a solo play written and performed by Winsome Brown - with preview performances starting June 11 prior to an official press opening June 14 at La MaMa's First Floor Theatre (74 E. 4 St.) in Manhattan. Brad Rouse directs the production, which runs through June 28. Following its debut at La MaMa, THIS IS MARY BROWN will travel to Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

Actress Ashley Brown from the Broadway production of Mary Poppins surprised the Franklin School for the Performing Arts Show Choir (Franklin, Mass.) as they attended a Disney Performing Arts workshop on Saturday, April 18. Ashley discussed her successful career, including her Broadway debut as Belle in the Disney hit Beauty and the Beast, and took time to answer questions and offer advice before a special vocal performance of Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins. Lyric Opera of Chicago announces a special performance of Andre Previn's A Streetcar Named Desire for high-school and college students with tickets for only $20. The operatic version of the Tennessee Williams classic will be seen in a semi-staged presentation with the Lyric Opera Orchestra onstage, with singers Beverly O' Regan Thiele (Blanche), Kiera Duffy (Stella), David Adam Moore (Stanley), and Scott Ramsay (Mitch). Evan Rogister conducts this presentation, which is directed by Brad Dalton.

From August 5 - September 4, The Classical Theatre of Harlem will present Shakespeare's great history play, Henry V, in a new staging directed by Jenny Bennett that features OBIE award-winner Ty Jones in the title role. An acclaimed veteran of the Company and driving force behind its survival, Jones heads a cast of 15 in a raw, timeless production. His interpretation of King Henry V not only highlights the character's charisma and inspirational power to lead, but also his heroic faults and morally questionable tactics.
