Blumenthal Performing Arts' annual Broadway Junior Theater Celebration, which has taken place each spring for 9 years, will bring 44 elementary and middle school groups from seven counties, totaling 2,199 students and teachers, to Knight Theater at Levine Center for the Arts on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (April 19- 21).

Excitement and pride will soon fill the air when more than 1500 students from 43 elementary and middle schools across the area participate in Blumenthal Performing Arts' annual Broadway Junior Theater Celebration over the course of three days, April 7-9.

Everyman Theatre's Director of Marketing, Jonathan K. Waller, is the composer and lyricist behind the new musical A SUPERHERO, which will be staged for the first time at his alma mater, McDonogh School, from April 12th through 14th. The show is a full-scale production featuring more than 30 students from all three divisions at McDonogh. It will also feature a 20-piece orchestra - 11 from the school's music department and 9 professional musicians. The new musical is about the extraordinary power of love, family, and the faith we have in things we can't prove to be real.

Earlier today, Nick Jonas - the popular singer/songwriter who was most recently seen in the Tony-nominated How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying - served as master of ceremonies as hundreds of students from middle and intermediate New York City Public Schools in Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Manhattan made their Broadway debut on stage at the Shubert Theatre, the culminating event of the 7th annual Shubert Foundation/MTI Broadway JR. Student Program. The students performed a song from their school's production of a student version of a Broadway musical, including Annie JR., Once on this Island JR., Disney's Aladdin JR., Guys and Dolls JR., Bugsy Malone JR., Meredith Willson's The Music Man JR., Dear Edwina JR., Fame JR., Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR., and Thoroughly Modern Millie JR.

Due to the success of the 2011 Junior Theater Festival Spring Intensive and the feedback from its participants, it was announced by Nick Manos, President of Theater of the Stars and Tim McDonald, Founding Chairman of iTheatrics that the Junior Theater Festival Spring Intensives will become an annual event. The 2nd Junior Theater Festival Spring Student Intensive will take place this month at Whitefield Academy.
