BWW Reviews: THE MOUNTAINTOP at TheaterWorks Hartford Recreates the Room and the Man

It's April 3, 1968 and the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., arrives at a Memphis motel after delivering his 'I've Been to the Mountaintop' speech. There, a mysterious maid bringing him a cup of room service coffee causes him to reflect on his life and destiny in Katori Hall's Olivier-winning play THE MOUNTAINTOP, running at TheaterWorks in Hartford.

THE MOTHERF**KER WITH THE HAT Begins 4/10 at the Kitchen Theatre Company

The Kitchen Theatre's 22nd Season continues with the regional premiere of Stephen Adly Guirgis's The Motherf**ker with the Hat. The play runs from April 10 to 28, with preview performances April 10, 11 and 12. Opening Night is April 13, and the closing performance is on April 28.

BAM150, Brooklyn Academy of Music Documentary, to Air on THIRTEEN, 4/19

To commemorate its sesquicentennial, BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) commissioned BAM150, a feature length documentary conceived by award-winning director Michael Sladek that weaves together the institution's vibrant past, present, and future presenting a rich history that mirrors the evolution of performing arts in 20th century America. This landmark film premiered last year at the Tribeca Film Festival and will air on Friday, April 19 at 10pm on THIRTEEN.

New City Stage Company to Present RFK at Capital Fringe Festival, 7/11-28

New City Stage Company opened the Philadelphia of 'RFK' by Jack Holmes in Philadelphia in October 2012 and then extended the show into November after 18 straight sold-out houses. The hot play will receive 2 more productions by New City Stage in 2013, including one in Washington, D.C.

The Segal Centre for Performing Arts and Copa de Oro Productions to Premiere THE MAHALIA JACKSON MUSICAL

The Segal Centre for Performing Arts and Copa de Oro Productions will present the world premiere of The Mahalia Jackson Musical, starring the legendary Ranee Lee as the Queen of Gospel. Written and directed by Roger Peace and featuring a live choir on stage, this 'roof-raising, foot-stomping' gospel celebration will be presented at the Segal Theatre from March 3rd to March 24th, 2013.

Newseum Opens Exhibit Featuring MLK Birmingham, Ala., JAILED IN BIRMINGHAM

To celebrate the beginning of Black History Month, today the Newseum opens 'Jailed in Birmingham,' a new exhibit featuring a casting of the original jail cell door behind which the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was confined after his April 1963 arrest for leading nonviolent protests in Birmingham, Ala. It was in this cell that the civil rights leader penned his historic letter defending civil disobedience. The 'Letter From Birmingham Jail,' written in response to a statement by a group of eight white Alabama clergymen, includes the now-famous quote, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.'

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO) today announced its programs for the 2013-14 concert season, conductor Jacques Lacombe's fourth year as the Orchestra's Music Director.
