The Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Outreach Division will perform William Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' tonight. The cast are members of the Outreach Division's Adler Youth Group, a free year-long after-school program. The students chosen for the program learn the same acting technique that helped cultivate the talents of Stella Adler alumni like Robert De Niro and Marlon Brando. This performance serves as a milestone project of the program, which has helped students gain confidence, avoid common urban influences like gangs and drugs, and provide a sense of community that will continue long after the program.

by BWW News Desk - Apr 14, 2011

Larry King is a name that has been woven into the fabric of American culture, being invited into the living rooms of millions of people every night for 25 years on CNN. He has been kissed by Marlon Brando; he's tussled with Jerry Seinfeld; he was the first to sit down with Paris Hilton after she left prison; he's interviewed people that never give interviews like the press-shy Frank Sinatra; and his coverage of 9/11 will forever be remembered. In today's society, you can't be considered a success until you've sat down across the table from the master: Larry King.

Gulfshore Playhouse Announces Its Sensational Sixth Season

The fourth and final Gulfshore Playhouse show of the 2011- 2012 season is the Tennessee Williams classic A Streetcar Named Desire, playing April 6 through 27, with a preview performance April 5. 2012 will mark the 65th Anniversary of this enduring classic. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play follows the story of Blanche DuBois, a weak and disturbed woman on a desperate prowl for some place in the world to call her own. After losing their ancestral home, Belle Reve, Blanche shows up at the doorstep of her sister, Stella, in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Putting on airs of refinement and Southern gentility, Blanche tries to impress her brother-in-law, and his gentle, good-natured friend, Mitch. Seeking to escape from reality, and an emblem of a lost traditional South, Blanche becomes a victim of the harsh present. Marlon Brando starred in the Broadway production and the 4-time Academy Award-winning film adaptation.

Macy, which we take a cursory look at, too, of course. Plus, some musical theatre parodies, celebrity impressions, his debut appearance in a Madonna music video, and even a visit from Elmo himself!

Tennessee Remembers TENNESSEE: Nashville's favorite Williams plays
by Jeffrey Ellis - Apr 1, 2011

In recognition of the centennial of Williams' birth, I conducted a very unscientific survey among Nashville theater folk to determine which of his plays are the most popular and the best loved. Perhaps surprisingly, the top vote-getters in our informal survey were A Streetcar Named Desire, Cat On a Hot Tin Roof and Summer and Smoke, shows that have been given memorable (so memorable, in fact, that people continue to talk about them) productions in Music City in the last century. Members of the Nashville theaterati have definite ideas where Williams' plays are concerned.
