On Christmas Day, Lincoln Center will share the warmth of the holiday season when it brings New York City Ballet's exquisite production of George Balanchine's THE NUTCRACKER to approximately 400,000 members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families serving abroad in 175 countries and U.S. territories, via AFN, the American Forces Network.

National Theatre Live's 2013 broadcast of the Donmar Warehouse's production of Coriolanus returns to select cinemas in HD by popular demand. AAA Northeast at The Playhouse: Live in HD Series will present Shakespeare's searing tragedy of political manipulation and revenge on Friday, January 8, at 6:30 p.m.

'Twas 17 nights before Christmas and there I was at the David H. Koch Theater, viewing Balanchine's 62 year old The Nutcracker, performed by the New York City Ballet, which had premiered it on February 2, 1954. Magic was in the air. Although it was a school night, there were a number of excited children in the audience dressed up in their finest party attire, a modern version of the children's party clothes in the first act. This ballet is, of course, geared towards the children, both in the audience and on the stage.

Featured in the cast are ON THE TOWN star Megan Fairchild as the Sugarplum Fairy, with Joaquin De Luz as Her Cavalier and Ashley Bouder as Dewdrop.

New York City Ballet will open its annual season of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, on Friday, November 27 at 8 p.m. at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The 2015-16 season of the holiday classic, sponsored by The Travelers Companies, Inc., will include 47 performances through Sunday, January 3, 2016.

On Thursday evening, October 15, 2015, the curtain rose at the David Koch Theater to reveal a colorful stage in the style of commedia dell'arte, vibrant scenery and costumes by Rouben Ter-Arutunian, and lighting by Mark Stanley. The occasion was George Balanchine's Harlequinade, created for the New York City Ballet for the 65th anniversary of Marius Petipa's Les Millions de Harlequin. While this Balanchine ballet premiered on February 4, 1965, its original roots, particularly from commedia dell'arte, were popular in Italy and France from the 16th to the 18th centuries. These comedies were filled with humor, slapstick, and mimicry. Actors wore masks, as did some of the dancers, which became so familiar that they evolved into stock characters, most notably Pierrot and his wife Pierrette; Columbine and Harlequin, who are in love and marry in the second act of the ballet; and the Good Fairy.

Lincoln Center at the Movies, the new cinema series recently announced by Lincoln Center in partnership with Fathom Events, will open in fall 2015 with Great American Dance presenting performances by four of America's leading companies: Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ballet Hispanico, New York City Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet. Each event will be shown in select cinemas nationwide at nearly 400 locations.

New York City Ballet will open its 2015-16 Season at Lincoln Center tonight, September 22 with eight performances of Peter Martins' production of Tschaikovsky's Swan Lake, through Tuesday, September 29, to launch the Company's 2015 Fall Season, which will continue for four weeks through Sunday, October 18.

SEATTLE, WA – PNB closes its 2014-2015 season with CARMINA BURANA, a dynamic duo of repertory works. Set to Shostakovich's galvanic score, Alexei Ratmansky's crowd-pleasing Concerto DSCH, an “endlessly suspenseful construction [with] passages of breathtaking dance brilliance” (New York Times) dazzles the eyes and ears with its playful, propulsive energy and glimpses of storytelling. In Kent Stowell's primal Carmina Burana, a grand-scale synthesis of dance, chorus, and orchestra, the famous cantata's poems materialize as the entire Company unites song and score for a jubilant communal experience under Carmina scenic designer Ming Cho Lee's colossal golden wheel. The program also includes a musical prelude to shine the spotlight on the world famous PNB Orchestra, currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary.  CARMINA BURANA runs for seven performances only, May 29 through June 7 at Seattle Center's Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. The ballets will be performed in 11 performances during the first two weeks.
