The Cathedral of St. John the Divine’s Great Music in a Great Space concert series will present Heaven’s Door, a performance by the Cathedral Choir and Orchestra, on Tuesday, April 5 at 7:30pm at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street). The concert will be held in person and available to livestream.

Perfect Crime, the longest running play in NYC history, will celebrate its 35th anniversary off-Broadway on Monday, April 18th in the Anne Bernstein Theater at The Theater Center.

The American Opera Project (AOP) will honor International Transgender Day of Visibility with 'AS ONE: THE WORK CONTINUES…” at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City. The one-hour live and livestreamed event, taking place on March 31, 2022 at 7 pm ET, will be moderated by baritone, model, and creative director Rahzé Cheatham who recently performed in the landmark 49th production of As One, featuring an all transgender cast.

New York Festival of Song (NYFOS), led by Artistic Director Steven Blier, concludes its 2021-22 Mainstage Series with The Wider View: Songs by Black Composers on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 8:00pm at Merkin Hall, co-presented by Kaufman Music Center. The concert features mezzo-soprano Lucia Bradford, soprano Kearstin Piper Brown, and baritone Jorell Williams, together with pianists Nathaniel LaNasa and Steven Blier, in works by Black composers that include H. Leslie Adams, Margaret Bonds, Harry Burleigh, Adolphus C. Hailstork, Robert Owens, Hale Smith, and William Grant Still.

Having planned a full, pre-pandemic-scale season for 2021-22, Kent Tritle, who is Director of Cathedral Music and Organist at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Music Director of both the Oratorio Society of New York and Musica Sacra, and Director of Choral Activities at the Manhattan School of Music, led or performed in a dozen concerts in the season’s first half, with only one event being canceled.

Kent’s spring concert schedule has undergone a few shuffles, but is going ahead largely as planned, featuring Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Oratorio Society of New York and soloists Susanna Phillips, Lucia Bradford, Isaiah Bell, and Justin Austin at Carnegie Hall (May 9) and more.

Opera Philadelphia returns to the Academy of Music stage for the first time since September 2019 with four performances of Rigoletto from April 29-May 8. Long one of the most popular works in the operatic canon, Verdi's unforgettable tragedy has not been performed by Opera Philadelphia in 15 years, making this new production an extra special event on the region's spring performing arts calendar.

OPERA America has announced the recipients of the 2022 Repertoire Development Grants: American Lyric Theater (New York, NY); Beth Morrison Projects (New York, NY); Houston Grand Opera (Houston, TX); Lyric Opera of Chicago (Chicago, IL); MassOpera (Salem, MA); Opera Theatre of Saint Louis (St. Louis, MO); Pensacola Opera (Pensacola, FL) and OperaDelaware (Wilmington, DE); and Virginia Opera (Norfolk, VA). A total of $225,000 was awarded to eight projects (see below) by these nine companies.
