Vancouver TheatreSports (VTS) is pleased to announce that Improv Comedy Institute instructor, mainstage ensemble player and Co-Artistic Associate, Graeme Duffy, will be representing VTS in China from October 31 to November 16, 2018. Duffy will be travelling to China to work with Fly Improv Theatre - teaching VTS' style of improv to their mainstage ensemble, instructors and current students in Shanghai and Beijing.

Musical theater actor and Award-winning New York Cabaret performer Rosemary Loar is bringing her original musical SPOOLIE GIRL to the Actors Temple Theatre (339 W 47th St, New York) for a nine-show run from October 17-27. Loar, who wrote the music and lyrics, and co-wrote the book with her late husband Robert Atwood, calls the show “a family-friendly fractured rock fairy tale.” SPOOLIE GIRL is a suddenly orphaned eco-friendly teenager from Kenya who comes to New York City. Wearing magical curlers called “spoolies” in her hair, she is able to read people's thoughts as songs, while navigating a world consisting of her narcissistic, fashionista Aunt, a Fairy Godmother (but way hipper), and a quirky neighbor who walks an invisible dog. And that's her support group. Along with Loar, the cast features Loar, Claire Lilley, and Michiko Sasaki.

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts announces the actors selected for The Wallis Studio Ensemble's 2018-2019 company. IFC announced that Michael Keaton (Birdman) and Owen Wilson (Zoolander) will star alongside Necar Zadegan (Here and Now) in an upcoming two-part episode of Documentary Now!, the Emmy(R)-nominated comedy known for lovingly paying homage to the world of documentaries. The episode titled, 'Batsh*t Valley,' will headline Season 52's seven-episode lineup, with both parts premiering back-to-back on Wednesday February 20 at 10PM. Documentary Now! is co-created by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Rhys Thomas and executive produced by Lorne Michaels.
The Lark is thrilled to announce five plays and playwrights have been chosen through its Open Access Program for the 25th Annual Playwrights' Week. This year's plays, selected from a pool of over 1,200 submissions, will be: Sistren by Erin Buckley; Even Flowers Bloom in Hell, Sometimes by Franky D. Gonzalez; As Is: Conversations With Big Black Women in Confined Spaces by Stacey Rose; form of a girl unknown by Charly Evon Simpson; and Desarrollo by Juliany Taveras. The selected playwrights will participate in an intensive seven-day retreat, designed to foster a peer-based community among the writers, their creative teams, and The Lark's staff.
