Get ready, 'cause here it comes- MOTOWN: THE MUSICAL that is! MOTOWN begins preview performances tonight, March 11 and will open on Broadway on April 14, 2013 at The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46 Street).Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, MOTOWN: THE MUSICAL will feature a book by Berry Gordy and music and lyrics from the legendary Motown catalogue. John Williams to Conduct Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in Celebration of Steven Spielberg, 6/4

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) today announced that five-time Academy Award-winning composer John Williams will conduct the BSO in a special benefit concert on Tuesday, June 4 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, appearing at the personal invitation of BSO Music Director Marin Alsop. Williams, celebrating 40 years of collaborating with legendary director Steven Spielberg, will conduct the BSO in selections from some of his most popular film scores. Furthermore, Williams is donating his services for this important fundraising concert for the BSO musicians' pension fund.

Marin Alsop Leads Felix Hell, BSO in Saint-Saens' Organ Symphony, 3/14-17

Music Director Marin Alsop leads the BSO and German concert organist Felix Hell in Saint-Saens' Symphony No. 3, "Organ", on Thursday, March 14 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 17 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The program also includes Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Poulenc's Organ Concerto. Maestra Alsop and Mr. Hell will continue their collaborative efforts in an Off the Cuff performance of Saint-Saens' 'Organ' Symphony on Friday, March 15 at 8:15 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore and Saturday, March 16 at 7 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The BSO's Off the Cuff Series offers a new way to enjoy the backstory of classical music's greatest works and the composers who wrote them. Please see below for complete program details.

BSO's Performance of Walkure Celebrates 200th Anniversary of Wagner's Birth, Now thru 2/17

In 2013, the world celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of German Romantic composer Richard Wagner. His legacy of lush, dramatic operas and penchant for speaking his mind about topics ranging from music to politics and society has left a lasting impact on classical music and culture. Among his greatest contributions to the Western music canon is his four-cycle opera Der Ring des Nibelungen ('The Ring of the Nibelung').

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Appoints John T. Verdon as New CFO

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) has appointed John T. Verdon as its new vice president and chief financial officer, a position he will start on February 11, 2013. Mr. Verdon has held leadership positions in a range of industries. Most recently, he served as CFO for Integrated Systems Analysts, Inc., a Northern Virginia-based firm that specializes in computer systems and solutions. Mr. Verdon's expertise as a Certified Public Accountant and more than 30 years of experience will aid BSO President and CEO Paul Meecham and the BSO board in their efforts to achieve the BSO's strategic vision: to prosper artistically within a sustainably balanced budget.

David T. Little's SOLDIER SONGS Gets Digital Release Today

On Tuesday, February 26, the debut recording of David T. Little's 'sharp, elegantly bristling' opera-theatre piece, Soldier Songs (2006), which recently completed a wildly successful NYC premiere run on the inaugural PROTOTYPE festival, is released on audio CD from Innova Recordings, produced by Lawson White. The recording receives its digital release on iTunes and Amazon today, February 5, 2013.

Jubilant Sykes, Kecia Lewis-Evans and Bob Stillman Star in Hartford Stage's 'BREATH & IMAGINATION', Now thru 2/3

Internationally-celebrated classical and gospel vocalist Jubilant Sykes, Broadway veteran Kecia Lewis-Evans, and Tom Frey will star in the world premiere of Daniel Beaty's Breath & Imagination - The Story of Roland Hayes, directed by Darko Tresnjak, on stage from January 11 through February 3. Press Night: 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16. Opening Night: 8 p.m. tonight, January 18.

BSO VP of Education Carol Bogash Appointed to Americans for the Arts Advisory Council

Americans for the Arts, the nation's leading non-profit for advancing the arts, has recognized Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) Vice President of Education and Community Engagement Carol Bogash's achievement as a leader in the field of arts education and appointed her to Americans for the Arts Advisory Council. Ms. Bogash was elected onto the council by popular vote from other Americans for the Arts members. She will serve a term of three years.

The concert hall is transformed into the movie theater when the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO), lead by Music Director Marin Alsop, with soprano Irina Tchistjakova and the Baltimore Choral Arts Society perform Sergei Prokofiev's music score from Sergei Eisenstein's classic 1938 motion picture Alexander Nevsky. The BSO and guests will perform this majestic score live while the film is projected behind them tonight, January 11, 2013 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore.
