Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos Conducts New York Philharmonic in Carmina Burana, Atlantida, 5/31-6/2

Spanish conductor Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos returns to the New York Philharmonic to conduct music from two secular cantatas: selections from Falla's Atlantida, and Orff's complete Carmina burana - which the Orchestra has not performed since 1995 - Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 1, at 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, June 2, at 8:00 p.m. The international cast that Mr. Fru?hbeck has assembled for these performances features American soprano Erin Morley, American tenor Nicholas Phan (in his Philharmonic debut), South African baritone Jacques Imbrailo (debut), the Spanish chorus Orpheo?n Pamplone?s, Igor Ijurra Ferna?ndez, director (debut), and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Dianne Berkun, director.

New Amsterdam Singers Present SONGS OF BIRDS AND ANGELS, 5/31

The New Amsterdam Singers, led by music director Clara Longstreth, will present the final concert of the season, titled Songs of Birds and Angels on Thursday, May 31 at 8 p.m at Saint Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church at 552 West End Avenue at 87th Street. The work that inspired the program's focus on birds is Steven Stucky's cycle, Skylarks, (2001), which is receiving its New York City premiere on this concert. Also receiving its New York City premiere is Matthew Harris' Shakespeare Songs, Book VI (2006).

Morgan James, Tituss Burgess and Marva Hicks Play Rockwood Music Hall, 3/19

Get ready for March Madness as Broadway's Morgan James hosts a concert with her rock n' soul band at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 (196 Allen Street) on Monday, March 19 at 9pm. There is a $5 cover charge. Joining her is Broadway's Tituss Burgess (The Little Mermaid/Guys and Dolls/Jersey Boys) and Marva Hicks (Caroline, or Change/The Lion King).

Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art Celebrates Fifth Anniversary with the Sackler Center First Awards

The Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum is celebrating its fifth anniversary by honoring fifteen contemporary women with the Sackler Center First Awards. Each of the recipients has broken a gender barrier to make a remarkable achievement and contribution in her respective field. The awards ceremony will take place in the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium at the Brooklyn Museum on Wednesday, April 18, from 4 to 6 p.m.

The New York Philharmonic and Alisa Weilerstein Perform at NJPAC, 3/9

Maestro David Zinman, making his NJPAC debut, conducts the New York Philharmonic and recent MacArthur Foundation Fellow Alisa Weilerstein in a Beethoven and Barber program in NJPAC's Prudential Hall on Friday, March 9 at 8pm. This performance is part of NJPAC's Bank of America Classical Series and is presented during the Philharmonic's three week Modern Beethoven festival in Manhattan under the baton of Zinman.

The New Amsterdam Singers to Present JUXTAPOSITIONS, 3/2 & 4

The New Amsterdam Singers and a bluegrass band will join forces for Carol Barnett's The World Beloved, A Bluegrass Mass,Friday, March 2 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 4 at 4 p.m. at The Church of the Holy Trinity, 316 East 88th Street (between First and Second Avenues). The work, premiered in 2007, combines the Latin text of the Mass with modern poetry and is accompanied by violin, mandolin, bass, banjo, and guitar- the traditional bluegrass forces.

PROJECT Trio joins the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) and guest conductor Jacomo Bairos for the first of LACO's 2012 Family Concerts series on Sunday, February 26, 2012, 2 pm, at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. PROJECT Trio, with its wildly eclectic mix of jazz, hip-hop and rock sounds and appearances on Nickelodeon and MTV, performs a high-octane twist on Copland's Appalachian Spring and other original works in its debut as LACO's Family Concerts artists-in-residence for the next three seasons. Bairos, who enjoys an international career as a conductor and educator, makes his LACO debut with this performance.

Music Director Jeffrey Kahane serves as musical "tour guide" for Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's annual "Discover" concert on Saturday, February 25, 2012, 8 pm, at Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena, which this season features a special one-night-only exploration of Bach's Magnificat, a pinnacle of choral literature.

Created by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione with music and lyrics by Kuo, the original musical tells the story of a Japanese American family forced into an internment camp during World War II.

Lea Salonga, George Takei & Telly Leung Lead Broadway-Bound ALLEGIANCE for The Old Globe Next Winter!

The Old Globe will open its 2012-13 Winter Season with the World Premiere of Allegiance - A New American Musical. Created by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione with music and lyrics by Kuo, the original musical tells the story of a Japanese American family forced into an internment camp during World War II. Directed by Stafford Arima (Carrie, Altar Boyz, West End premiere of Ragtime), the production features musical direction and arrangements by Lynne Shankel (Cry-Baby, Company) and choreography by Christopher Gattelli (Newsies, Godspell, South Pacific). Tony Award-winning actress Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Les Miserables), television and film icon George Takei ("Star Trek," "Heroes") and Telly Leung (Godspell, Rent) will star.
