Opera Santa Barbara will receive a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to help defray costs associated with its new production of Leoš Jana?ek's The Cunning Little Vixen, which the company will present at the Granada Theatre on March 3 and 5.
Opera Santa Barbara has named four outstanding young vocalists Mosher Studio Artists for 2016-17. Under an expansion of the company's artist residency program begun last year, the four standout singers and an apprentice vocal coach will take part in Opera Santa Barbara productions, community events throughout Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, and coachings and masterclasses with top industry directors and conductors.
Single tickets are on sale now for Opera Santa Barbara's 2016-17 season, which will open November 4 and 6 with Georges Bizet's timeless drama Carmen, followed by productions of Leoš Jana?ek's imaginative The Cunning Little Vixen on March 3 and 5, and Giacomo Puccini's richly melodic La Rondine on April 28 and 30. The Opera Lab, Opera Santa Barbara's innovative outreach program for children, will tour area elementary schools beginning next month, company officials have announced. Opera Lab sessions will take place in South Santa Barbara County schools February 1 through 12 and March 21 through 25; in Ventura County schools March 7 through 11; and in North Santa Barbara County schools March 14 through 18.
