Watch as the Velveteen Rabbit, the most modest toy in the nursery, earns the love of a young boy and learns about the joy and pain of becoming 'real.' Margery Williams' classic book springs to magical life in this enchanting musical about love, loss, and self-esteem - with music by the composer of the smash Off-Broadway revue I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change; Book and Lyrics by James Still; and music by Jimmy Roberts, this one hour family-friendly musical takes on a new dimension of love, acceptance, and true humanity as presented by the award-winning Phamaly Theatre Company.

bergenPAC Presents THE VELVETEEN RABBIT, 4/6

With successful productions at theatres around the country, this fantasy play is described as enjoyable to all groups, including adults. Written as a 'memory play,' The Velveteen Rabbit is an emotional journey through time, as told through the eyes of a young man looking back on his childhood. By reliving the relationship between his 4-year-old self and his favorite toy, the velveteen rabbit, he rediscovers the true meaning of friendship. Central to the story is, of course, the velveteen rabbit, who is introduced to the idea of becoming real by the old rocking horse. The play explores the rewards of loyalty, the poignancy of loss, and the wonderful, surprising powers of love.

BWW JR: Rabbit Season Begins with Velveteen

Using some simple props, three versatile actors recreate the classic story of the Velveteen Rabbit. In the style of Peter and the Starcatcher, a few somewhat neutral objects are very believably turned into functional costume pieces and help tell the story in a way that is imaginative and delightful. The show was funny without being over the top and adapted slightly for modern audiences (the wind-up toys boast double-A batteries) without losing the flavor of the well-known book by Margery Williams.
