Teatro El Publico's production of Petra von Kant, which regrettably only saw two performances at the Kennedy Center's Family Theatre, is both a thoughtful exploration of humanity and a classic actor's vehicle. Featuring leggy poseurs, lavish costumes, wild hairstyles (thanks to a small vault's worth of wigs), the show is a fascinating character study, and a showcase for some of Cuba's most brilliant theatrical talent. A number of firsts are occurring as the City of Vista's Moonlight Amphitheatre raises the curtain on a new era beginning in January. The Amphitheatre's new performing arts program, Moonlight Presents, offers its first series, Moonlight Cabaret, and at the same time inaugurates its new performance space: ClubM. For one night only, on Friday, Jan. 15 at 8 pm, Moonlight Presents offers a sold-out performance of Susan Egan: The Real Housewife of Broadway.   (more...)

Gotham Early Music Scene (GEMS), as part of its milestone Fifth Anniversary celebration, announces "GEMAS," a new series of early music concerts in collaboration with the Americas Society featuring the early music of the Americas. The series will be co-directed by Americas Society Music Director Sebastian Zubieta and the celebrated soprano Nell Snaidas. The opening concert, by lutenist Paul O'Dette, will be performed tonight, November 9, 7:00 p.m., at Americas Society, 680 Park Avenue (between 68th and 69th Streets). This concert is part of Carnegie Hall's "Voices from Latin America" series this fall, which partners with outside organizations for performances in venues throughout the city. (more...)
