The National Theatre announced today that individual tickets for the Washington area premiere of Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage will go on sale Friday, June 13 at 10 a.m. The staged musical of this worldwide smash-hit film will play the National Theatre for three weeks only, August 26 through September 14, before embarking on a North American tour. The official opening night has been set for Tuesday, September 2.
The additional dates for the smash-hit show include the Eastbourne Congress Theatre (Tuesday 13 - Saturday 24 January 2015), Sunderland Empire (Tuesday 27 January - Saturday 14 February 2015), the Edinburgh Playhouse (Tuesday 24 February - Saturday 14 March 2015), the Wales Millennium Centre Cardiff (Tuesday 17 - Saturday 28 March 2015) and the Liverpool Empire (Tuesday 7 - Saturday 25 April 2015). Daily Variety is reporting that the international stage hit Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage could be making itself a home on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre after current resident Hairspray takes its final bow. While no official plans have been confirmed, inside word is that 'Dancing' looks to be eyeing the space for it's Rialto bow. There is no word on an exact date for a Broadway opening, but insiders predict a Fall 2009 start for the film to stage tuner.
