P73 Announces $5000 Playwriting Fellowship to Nabers for 2011

Page 73 proudly announces that JANINE NABERS is the recipient of the 2011 'P73 Playwriting Fellowship,' an annual award that provides an early-career playwright with a $5,000 cash grant along with along with a year of development support for one or two projects, it has been announced by Liz Jones and Asher Richelli, the artistic directors of the Off-Broadway theatre company Page 73.

Clubbed Thumb and Playwrights Horizons Launch Development Program

Clubbed Thumb (Maria Striar, Producing Artistic Director; Diana Maxine Konopka, Associate Director) and Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) today announced the launch of SuperLab, an innovative new play development program. A series of collaboratively curated play laboratories, SuperLab will support the creation of bold, risk-taking new works by living American playwrights. Supported by funds granted to Clubbed Thumb by Metlife/Theatre Communications Group's A-ha! Program, created to foster creative thinking and action among its member theaters, these two like-minded companies will join forces to produce a six-play development lab. Clubbed Thumb and Playwrights Horizons, who share a commitment to advancing distinctive new voices, will bridge a gap between downtown and uptown theater sensibilities, methodologies and artist rosters, expanding the range of experience and opportunity for all.

Aurora Theatre Company Announces GAP Directors

Berkeley's Aurora Theatre Company announces the directors for the company's sixth Global Age Project (GAP) festival of new works: Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director chose Allen McKelvey, M. Graham Smith, Jonathan Spector, and Tracy Ward to sit on this year's GAP Director's Council. Over the next several weeks, the directors, along with Ross, will select finalists from an international pool of play submissions dealing with global age concerns. Four plays will be chosen to be presented as staged readings during the GAP festival, scheduled for February of 2011. The GAP festival will coincide with the company's fully-staged World Premiere of 2010 GAP finalist Allison Moore's new comedy, COLLAPSE, the second main stage production to develop from the GAP.

The Vagabond Theatre Ensemble presents Hangman School for Girls in association with Fullstop Collective. The show will feature Nick Afka, Louiza Collins, Lucy Gillespie, Sarah Ann Masse, Lillian Meredith, and Briel Pomerantz. The production will play at Manhattan Theatre Source (177 MacDougal Street), March 10-27, Thursday through Saturday at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm with additional performances on Monday, March 22 at 8pm and Saturday, March 27 at 2pm. Diversionary Theatre will do a reading of Madeleine George's play The Zero Hour on Monday, March 8 at 7:30pm at the Theatre (one night only!). The reading will be performed by Amanda Sitton and Jacque Wilke, and directed by Dan Kirsch, Diversionary's Executive & Artistic Director.

Lark's 2009-10 Playwright Workshop Participants Announced

The Lark Play Development Center announced the selected playwrights for the 2009-10 Playwrights' Workshop. This year's writers are Michi Barall (Ma-Yi Writer's Lab), Madeleine George (13P founding member), Katori Hall (Lark's 2009 PONY Fellow), Sarah Treem (HBO's 'In Treatment') and David Wiener (Extraordinary Chambers).

Photo Flash: 13P Presents MONSTROSITY At The Connelly

13P (Thirteen Playwrights, Inc), the OBIE Award-winning theater company made up of 13 playwrights, will present Lucy Thurber's (P#8) 'MONSTROSITY,' directed by Lear deBessonet. 'MONSTROSITY' will be performed at The Connelly Theatre, 220 East 4th Street (between Avenues A and B), with performances running from July 9 through 19, 2009 for a total of twelve performances.
