Soho Rep Announces Writer/Director Lab Readings

Soho Rep launches the 10th season of its highly popular WRITER/DIRECTOR LAB READING SERIES, readings of the very newest work by writers and directors at Soho Rep on Monday, April 7 at 7pm with, playwright Mike Daisey's THE MOON IS A DEAD WORLD, directed by Maria Goyanes -- the first of six new plays commissioned for the lab.
Kaufman's '33 Variations' Receives New Play Award

The American Theatre Critics Association (ATCA) announced yesterday that it has selected Moisés Kaufman's 33 Variations to receive the 2008 Harold and Mimi Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award. The announcement was made at Actors Theatre of Louisville during the Humana Festival of New American Plays. The award includes a commemorative plaque and a cash prize of $25,000-currently the largest national playwriting award. Deborah Zoe Laufer's End Days and Sarah Ruhl's Dead Man's Cell Phone also received citations and $7,500 each. These three were among six finalists selected from 28 eligible scripts submitted by ATCA members. They were evaluated by a committee of 12 theater critics from across the country.
'Main(e) Play' Premieres 1/16 with Gladis; Beckim Directs

Partial Comfort Productions presents the World Premiere of The Main(e) Play by Chad Beckim. Directed by Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara, the production stars Michael Gladis (best known as Paul Kinsey on AMC's critically acclaimed series 'Mad Men'). Previews begin January 16 at The Lion Theater where Partial Comfort is a resident company. Opening night is scheduled for Wednesday, January 23
Vineyard Season includes 'God's Ear' & 'Slug Bearers'

God's Ear - Jenny Schwartz's new play that was developed by The Vineyard Theatre and debuted at New Georges earlier this year - will return to The Vineyard as the company's third mainstage production of the 2007-08 Season, with previews set to begin in early April, it has been announced by Douglas Aibel, artistic director of The Vineyard Theatre.
The Flea Premieres 'Seating Arrangements' with Danish Arts

Pold Worm Jensen - three experimental theater artists from Copenhagen, Denmark - in association with The Bats (The Flea's resident acting company) will premiere Seating Arrangements as part of the Danish arts initiative DaNY Arts. Inspired by 'Babette's Feast', the short story by Danish writer Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen) and the Academy Award winning film of the same name, this unique new work begins a limited engagement run beginning October 10 at The Flea Theater.
