ATW's Working In Theater Continues With THE STATE OF THEATRE

The American Theatre Wing (Theodore S. Chapin, Chairman, Board of Trustees; Heather Hitchens, Executive Director) continues the 2011 season of its legendary, long running, and newly revamped television show, 'Working in the Theatre,' with an all new episode on 'The State of Theatre: Institutions and Producers.'

Philip Himberg Appointed Theatre Communications Group President

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, announces new leadership of its board of directors and seven new members. Philip Himberg, producing artistic director of the Sundance Institute Theatre Program, will assume the position of board president. He succeeds Martha Lavey, artistic director of Steppenwolf, who concluded a two year term in June. He will be joined by returning vice president, James Bundy, artistic director, Yale Repertory Theatre and newly appointed vice president Rachel Kraft, executive director, Lookingglass Theatre Company. Roche Schulfer, executive director, Goodman Theatre will serve as treasurer and Olga Sanchez, artistic director, Miracle Theatre Group, will serve again as secretary. Lavey will remain on the board as immediate past President.

STICK FLY Heads to Broadway Next Season Produced by Alicia Keys; Kenny Leon Helms

The New York Times has announced that Lydia R. Diamond's STICK FLY will head to Broadway next season, produced by Grammy-winning superstar Alicia Keys, Reuben Cannon and Nelle Nugent. The show will be directed by Kenny Leon (Fences) and begin previews at the Lyceum Theatre on November 18, 2011. Opening night is scheduled for December 8. Casting announcements are forthcoming.

KC Rep Adds CABARET To 10-11 Season Lineup

Eric Rosen, artistic director of Kansas City Repertory Theatre, has added CABARET to the Rep's 2010-11 season lineup. Rosen will direct the Tony Award-winning musical written by two of America's most distinguished and prolific songwriters, Kansas City native John Kander and Fred Ebb, with a book by Joe Masteroff.

Secrets unfold when the LeVay brothers bring their girlfriends to the family?s luxurious Martha?s Vineyard Summer home to meet their parents. When they see one of the girlfriends is white, long-hidden truths are revealed in this funny and poignant portrait of a dysfunctional African-American family. Under the microscope and unaccustomed to the LeVay?s affluent lifestyle, the women challenge the household dynamic. While issues around race and class are at the forefront of this play, it is ultimately about secrets, skeletons in the closet, and about dysfunctional family life.
