New Georges Presents Three World Premieres as Part of JAM ON TOAST Festival, Now thru 5/31

New Georges will present World Premiere productions by Kate Benson (2014 Clubbed Thumb Biennial Commission winner), Krista Knight (Salamander Leviathan at Joe's Pub; Clementine and the Cyber Ducks at Incubator Arts Project), and Caroline V. McGraw (2013 Page 73 Playwriting Fellow) as part of The New Georges Jam On Toast, a brand-new festival featuring work by The New Georges Jam, a 'performance gym' for early-career female playwrights and directors founded in 2010 by Lucy Alibar, Jess Chayes, and Portia Krieger.

New Georges to Offer Workshop Presentations & Cabaret Shows as Part of Jam On Toast at Dixon Place, 5/14-31

New Georges (Susan Bernfield, Producing Artistic Director; Sarah Cameron Sunde, Deputy Artistic Director; Jaynie Saunders Tiller, Managing Director) will present workshop presentations of new plays by Jam artists Dipika Guha (The Architecture of Becoming with Women's Project), Mary Elizabeth Hamilton (current member of EST's Youngblood), and Anna Moench (The Pillow Book at 59E59; Gormanzee at The Flea) as part of The New Georges Jam On Toast, a brand-new play festival featuring work by The New Georges Jam, a 'performance gym' for early-career female playwrights and directors founded in 2010 by Lucy Alibar, Jess Chayes, and Portia Krieger. The works in progress will be directed by Sarah Krohn (Victor Frange Presents Gas at Incubator Arts Project; 2013 Boris Sagal Fellow at Williamstown Theatre Festival), Pirronne Yousefzadeh (QVC with Partial Comfort; The Tenant with Woodshed Collective), and Adrienne Campbell-Holt (Colt Coeur's Fish Eye at HERE; Missed Connections with Ars Nova). The festival will also feature cabaret-style pieces and special presentations by Sofia Alvarez (Between Us Chickens at South Coast Rep), Eliza Bent (Blue Wizard/Black Wizard at Incubator Arts Project; The Hotel Colors at The Bushwick Starr), Mary Birnbaum (Artistic Director of art.party.theater.company), Katie Brook (She Is King at Dixon Place; American Realism at The Invisible Dog), Meghan Finn (Take Me Home with Incubator Arts Project/3LD; Erin Courtney's The Service Road; Mac Wellman's AFAR at Dixon Place), Morgan Gould (co-creator of Young Jean Lee's Untitled Feminist Show),Caroline V. McGraw (2013 Page 73 Playwriting Fellow), and Mia Rovegno (The Civilians' Pretty Filthy II at Joe's Pub; We Play for the Gods with Women's Project).

New Georges to Present New Play Festival 'JAM ON TOAST,' 5/14-31

New Georges will present The New Georges Jam On Toast, a brand-new festival featuring work by The New Georges Jam, a 'performance gym' for early-career playwrights and directors founded in 2010 by Lucy Alibar, Jess Chayes, and Portia Krieger. New Georges will take over the legendary downtown performance space Dixon Place (161 Chrystie Street between Rivington and Delancey) from May 14-31 with World Premiere productions running in rep, works-in-progress presentations and cabaret-style shows, for a total of 47 performances over two and a half weeks.

Jam ON TOAST, One-Minute Play Festival & More Set for New Georges' 2014 Season

New Georges' 22nd production year will spotlight on The New Georges Jam ON TOAST at Dixon Place, a new play festival that will feature work by the New Georges Jam, a "performance gym" for early-career playwrights and directors founded at New Georges in 2010 by Lucy Alibar(Beasts of the Southern Wild), Jess Chayes (HOME/SICK) and Portia Krieger (Eager to Lose). The New Georges Jam ON TOAST will feature 19 Jammers past and present - including two playwrights receiving their first New York productions. But first New Georges will kick things off with The 1st George Sand Invitational One-Minute Play Festival, the first all-women edition of the nationwide One-Minute Play Festival, January 13th & 14th at INTAR Theatre, featuring one-minute plays by over 50 female playwrights. The '14 season will also feature a special collaboration between New Georges and Barnard College in March, New Plays at Barnard, which will bring downtown artists and the new-play experience to students at Barnard and Columbia.

Previews begin Thursday, October 24, for Year of the Rooster by Youngblood playwright Eric Dufault, directed by John Giampietro, at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, 549 West 52nd Street. Year of the Rooster is a comic, mythic elevation of the gritty subculture of American cockfighting by a 25-year-old playwright. It opens the Ensemble Studio Theatre's 46th season Monday, October 28, at 7:00pm .

Theater for the New City, Crystal Field, Executive Director, presents the Lesser America production of Just Right Just Now, directed by Peter James Cook and Stella Powell-Jones. The show is an evening of original and premiere short plays by Clare Barron (Baby Screams Miracle), Eric Dufault (The Year of the Rooster), Anna Kerrigan (The Talls), Lauren Morelli (Orange is the New Black), Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy), and Brian Watkins (The Prairie Plays).

Ojai Playwrights Conference's New Works Festival to Open 8/7

The Ojai Playwrights Conference (OPC), one of the most acclaimed new play developmental programs in the country, announces its 16th season with an extraordinary program of playwrights, new play workshops and special performance events from August 7 through 11, 2013 in Ojai, California. The OPC Summer New Works Festival will feature eleven events over five days with established and up-and-coming playwrights. Participating in this year's conference with new works are Luis Alfaro (winner of the National Hispanic Playwriting Prize), Lucy Alibar, Richard Cabral, Samuel D. Hunter, Sean Lewis, Jiehae Park, Laura Schellhardt and David Wiener. Alice Tuan will be this year's "Writer-In-Residence," and as always, there will be two unforgettable "Intersection Series" events: one featuring a first-ever musical theatre collaboration Walt Disney Imagineering, Creative Entertainment, and the other showcasing the talents of actors, writers, songwriters and storytellers in an evening of profound solo performances.

Sundance Institute to Host Week of Creative Film Producing Initiatives, 7/29-8/4

Sundance Institute today announced the participants for its annual Creative Producing Labs and Creative Producing Summit, both held the week of July 29 at the Sundance Resort in Sundance, Utah. Culture Project dives into the summer with the Women Center Stage 2013 Festival, today, July 8 - August 3, 2013 at the newly named Lynn Redgrave Theater (45 Bleecker Street). The month long Festival will feature works written, directed and produced entirely by women, including work by Lynn Redgrave (Shakespeare For My Father), Staceyann Chin (Def Poetry Jam on Broadway), Dael Orlandersmith (Yellowman, Beauty's Daughter), Lucy Alibar (Beasts of the Southern Wild), Dominique Morriseau (Detroit '67), Leila Buck (In The Crossing), and Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai ('Russell Simmon Presents HBO Def Poetry'), directors Gaye-Taylor Upchurch (Bethany, Harper Regan), Jackson Gay (Collapse) and Nicole A. Watson (2013 Drama League Directing Fellow), poetry composed by Afghan women collected by Guggenheim Fellow Eliza Griswold, and an evening written by girls ages 10-18 from Girl Be Heard, viBe Theater Experience, Urban Word NYC and the Prospect Theater Summer Teen Intensive.

Sundance Institute Kicks Off Summer 2013 Directors and Screenwriters Labs

Sundance Institute welcomes 13 projects, selected for its annual June Directors and Screenwriters Labs, taking place at the Sundance Resort in Utah from today, May 27 through June 27. Under the leadership of Michelle Satter, Founding Director of the Institute's Feature Film Program, and the artistic direction of Gyula Gazdag, the Fellows selected for this year's program include emerging filmmakers and projects from the United States, Europe, Mexico, Peru and Somalia.
