This Black History Month BET launches its first-ever event miniseries 'THE BOOK OF NEGROES,' a six-part historical drama in the tradition of Roots, based on Lawrence Hill's award-winning, Oprah Winfrey-listed novel (known in the United States as Someone Knows My Name). Hoberman. The series, which will be accompanied by a new monograph written by Hoberman, includes nineteen films, and will be presented by Museum of the Moving Image from August 10 through September 1. The films include established classics such as Rosemary's Baby, The French Connection, Midnight Cowboy, and Dog Day Afternoon, as well as lesser known films such as The Angel Levine, Bye Bye Braverman, and Cotton Comes to Harlem.

ARC Entertainment recently acquired all North American rights to the family film STANDING UP, based on the award-winning young adult novel by Brock Cole, The Goats. Starring Chandler Canterbury (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Annalise Basso (Bedtime Stories) and Val Kilmer (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Top Gun), the film was written and directed by D.J. Caruso. The film is set to hit theaters on Aug. 16, will be availabe exclusively at Wal Mart on DVD beginning Aug. 20, as well as VOD.
