The Group Rep celebrated Veterans Day early on Friday, November 7th, hosting local Veterans to a free performance of the well-received world premiere musical comedy "Don't Hug Me, We're Married" at the Lonny Chapman Theatre. The Group Rep at the Lonny Chapman Theatre is a 41 year-old producing 501 c (3) membership theatre company located in the NoHo Arts District of North Hollywood, CA.
Folks who are unfamiliar with the Don't Hug Me series of shows need look no further than at the signs in the lobby of the group rep that say 'Have a Crappie Day!' It's obvious that the show inside is unlike any other with an unmistakable individuality and peculiarly regional point of view, that everyone can relate to. We've all known people like these crazy characters. In a long series of Don't Hug Me productions the Olson Brothers are at it again, this time around with Don't Hug Me, We're Married, now onstage in NoHo through November 15.

The Group Rep presents as their first production of their 41st Season Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire directed by L. Flint Esquerra, produced by Kellie Brook Malone for the Group Rep. This Pulitzer Prize and Drama Critics Circle Award-winning play famously recounts how the faded and promiscuous Blanche DuBois is pushed over the edge by her sexy and brutal brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski. Considered to be one of the most remarkable plays of our time, the play solidified Tennessee Williams' position as one of the most important young playwrights of his generation.

Playwright Steve Julian dives into the world of transgender acceptance with his new work Ribbon of Life, directed by Alexis Jacknow, SDC. The play depicts Savannah's efforts to get her parents to accept Ezmae, a transgender woman, as her life partner. It might be easy if it were not for confusion, ignorance and abhorrence of non-conservative values.
