Ballet luminaries OLEG BRIANSKY and MIREILLE BRIANE will receive the 2015 'Educational Visionary' Lifetime Achievement Award, as 'visionaries who have promoted innovation in education through the arts.' Partners in life and dance for over 50 years, Briansky and Briane are being honored for their distinguished careers as dancers and choreographers, as well as for their exemplary role as founders and teachers at The Briansky Ballet Center for over 45 years. Presenter will be Lori Klinger, Artistic and Executive Director of Rosie's Theater Kids, and host is comedian Nat Towsen, standup comedian and host of Nat Towsen's Downtown Variety Hour. The evening includes hors d'oeuvres and drinks, a silent auction of glamorous goods including gift certificates, dinners and vacations, and dancing to a hip DJ.

After the huge success of Marat/Sade, an experimental play by the celebrated German playwright Peter Weiss (Tony Award and New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Broadway production in 1965), a newly formed international theatre ensemble, directed and led by Dennis Yueh-Yeh Li, Artistic Associate of The Living Theatre, will bring Weiss's last play The New Trial to life. With an original adaptation, titled The (New) Trial, the production is intended as an homage that celebrates Weiss's 100th birthday and his theatrical legacy. The adaptation will be presented in the genre of experimental theatre in English and German, attempting to re-introduce Weiss's aesthetics and German post-war theatre to American audiences. The (New) Trial is partially funded by the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan, and made possible by Label Gray and The Living Theatre.
New Georges will present a revival reading of its 2008 hit show HILLARY: A MODERN GREEK TRAGEDY WITH A (SOMEWHAT) HAPPY ENDING by Wendy Weiner and directed by Julie Kramer, as part of The Spree, a progressive festivity to benefit New Georges. The special one night only benefit reading will take place on Monday, September 28 at Five Angels Theatre at the 52nd Street Project (789 10th Avenue between 52nd and 53rd Streets). 'The (New) Trial' is a radical version of 'The New Trial' by Peter Weiss (1916-1982), adapted and directed by Dennis Yueh-Yeh Li. The play experiments with identity and power-relations, presenting a surreal look at the life of K, the chief attorney in an international corporation. The play explores K's obsessive idealism and his self-destructive methodology in helping others. Confined in his own docile body, K is manipulated as the public mask for the corporation to win the 'war' over current global market expansion and eventually is abandoned by the corporation once the victory is obtained. 'The (New) Trial' will have its world premiere September 1 to September 6 as part of Theater for the New City's 2015 Dream Up Festival.

The Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival, the nation's premier short play competition, announces the 30 finalists for its 40th Anniversary of the Festival. Chosen from over 1,500 submissions (a record breaking number) from the U.S. and abroad, these 30 plays will be presented during a week-long festival August 6th-9th. All performances will take place at the East 13th Street Theater (Classic Stage Company).
The Off Broadway Alliance, the organization of Off Broadway producers, theaters, general managers, press agents and marketing professionals, presented the 5th annual Off Broadway Alliance Awards on June 16th at Sardi's, honoring outstanding achievement in Off Broadway theatre for the 2014 - 2015 season.
