Children's Playhouse of Maryland Presents OLIVER!, 9/15-30

The Children's Playhouse of Maryland kicks off its 2012-2013 season with the musical Oliver! The play with music, lyrics, and book by Lionel Bart is an adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel "Oliver Twist." The musical will be performed 1 p.m. Sept. 15 - 16, 22-23, 29 -30 and 4 p.m. Sept. 23. in the J Building Lecture Hall at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. The 4 p.m. show will be sign-language interpreted by students from the CCBC Catonsville Interpreter Preparation Program. Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for birthday parties or scout troops. Tickets are available in advance through the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-ARTS (2787) and at the door, space permitting.

Berkshire Theatre Group Presents OLIVER! at The Colonial Theatre, 9/7-9

At The Colonial Theatre, Berkshire Theatre Group presents Oliver! with music, lyrics and book by Lionel Bart. The show runs from September 7 to September 9 with performances at 7:30pm on Friday, 2pm and 7:30pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. Oliver! is directed by Travis G. Daly with music direction by Carlton Maaia and choreography by Kathy Jo Grover.

Neal Mayer Leads Ivoryton's OLIVER!, Now thru 9/2

No sooner had the curtain gone down on the final moments of Ivoryton's smash hit HAIRSPRAY, than Neal Mayer was dropping Wilbur's Hawaiian shirts in the laundry basket and doffing the rags and tatters of that lovable villain, Fagin. In just 10 short days, OLIVER! will open and the transformation will be complete - goodbye Baltimore and hello London!

Today in 1965, Oliver! opened at the Martin Beck Theatre, where it ran for 64 performances. Oliver! is a British musical, with script, music and lyrics by Lionel Bart. The musical is based upon the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. It premiered in the West End in 1960, enjoying a long run, a successful Broadway production in 1963 and further tours and revivals. It was made into a musical film in 1968. Major London revivals played from 1994-1998 and again from 2009-2011.

Howard Panter (Mr West End himself) for The Ambassador Theatre Group presents Monty Python's Spamalot, a new musical lovingly ripped off from Monty Python and the Holy Grail by Eric Idle and John Du Prez, directed by Christopher Luscombe. Galloping into the West End for a truly bespoke season at the Harold Pinter Theatre (long pause) tonight, 24 July - Sunday 9 September 2012 (press night Tuesday 31 July). Tickets on sale now.

Off-Broadway's Irish Repertory Theatre presented a concert performance of Lionel Bart's OLIVER! for its 2012 Annual Benefit Gala at The Shubert Theatre, helmed by Charlotte Moore.
