DTF's 2015 Summer Season to Feature OUTSIDE MULLINGAR, INTIMATE APPAREL & More

Dorset Theatre Festival announces its 2015 Season, featuring 3 Regional Premieres, 2 Pulitzer Prize winners, its 6th Annual New Play Reading Series and new for this year - a Family Fun Series designed to introduce quality theatre to the next generation of theatre-goers. "When I went about looking for the right plays for us to present this summer, my one criteria was to find plays that were moving, that make people care. These plays all have that quality, and whether funny, sad, or thought-provoking, people will walk out of the Playhouse this summer inspired and moved by what they have seen," says Dorset Theatre Festival Artistic Director, Dina Janis.

BWW Reviews: SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE CASE OF THE JERSEY LILY by Katie Forgette Ultimately Disappoints

If an example existed to explain the value of copyright laws, Katie Forgette's SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE CASE OF THE JERSEY LILY might well be it. Since the copyright has expired on the characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson they are now in the public domain and authors other than the originator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, can use these characters in their own works. In the case of Katie Forgette, she has used them to craft a stake-less, mediocre play with more marketability than merit, while stealing freely from Doyle's stories (notably, "A Scandal in Bohemia"), Wilde and Shakespeare without capturing any of the panache or humor of any of them. Sadly, the best moments in the script are actually from "The Importance of Being Earnest" and "Romeo and Juliet".

In a fast-paced ride full of surprises and disguises, Holmes and Watson must do whatever it takes to help their friends...while facing their greatest foe.

LES MISERABLES, BOEING BOEING & More Set for Cortland Rep's 2014 Summer Season

Cortland Repertory Theatre, one of New York State's longest running professional summer theatres, is announcing their 43rd annual season for the summer of 2014. Producing Artistic Director Kerby Thompson says that variety is the key element that he and the CRT Board of Directors Play Review Committee look for in putting an exciting season together. "The committee and I read a lot of different plays, and look for how best to piece an exciting season together." Other items such as the number of actors in the casts, expense of costumes and sets, and the estimated popularity of the shows also play a part. "Additionally, because we hire actors and technicians from around the country, we need to provide housing for them, so that also becomes a major factor in deciding if and when to do a show." Thompson says.
