OBIE Award-winning theater company Metropolitan Playhouse will present the eleventh annual East Side Stories, a three-week celebration of the life and lore of the East Village featuring twelve new plays and solo performances chronicling such timely topics as real estate, rising development and the loss of old neighbors as well as historical events like the Astor Place and Tompkins Square Riots.

On Her Shoulders presents a staged reading of A Bold Stroke for a Wife by Susanna Centlivre, directed by Rebecca Patterson and edited by Tasha Gordon Solomon, tonight, December 16, 2013. The Play in Context, a special component contextualizing the script in its historical time and place, will be delivered at the top of the evening. Directed by Danny Sharron, this site-specific production runs at Port Royal, a found performance space under the Tea Lounge (837 Union Street, Brooklyn) today and Friday nights starting today, April 25 through Friday, May 17 at 8 p.m.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tony & Grammy award-winning creator & composer of hit Broadway musical In The Heights hosted The Hispanic Federation's 20th Anniversary Gala as the organization honored five Latino trailblazers including Miranda's mentor and father Luis A. Miranda, founding president of the Hispanic Federation; Nina Garcia, the New York Times Best-Selling author and judge on hit show Project Runway, Angel Sánchez; world-renowned Latin American fashion designer; Mike Fernandez, Vice-President of State Farm Insurance; Willie Colon, internationally acclaimed recording artist and humanitarian. The night of celebration, held at the Waldorf Astoria, included a special performance by Willie Colon.
