Skirball Cultural Center Announces 2014 Sunset Concerts, Free Community Concert Series

The Skirball Cultural Center announces the line-up for its eighteenth annual free Sunset Concerts. Circumnavigating the globe from the Americas to Africa, the 2014 season features a dynamic mix of traditions and styles. The schedule is as follows: the California debut of Noura Mint Seymali (July 24); the California debut of Conjunto Chappotin y Sus Estrellas (July 31); The Haden Triplets (August 7); Flaco Jimenez and Max Baca & Los Texmaniacs (August 14); Yiddish Tango Club (August 21); and Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys (August 28).

FLORA, FAUNA & FORM On View 4/17-21 at the HATBOX in NYC

'Flora, Fauna & Form: The Spring Thaw,' curated by Beth McNeill and Kristin Miller, will be on view at the Refinery Hotel from April 17 through April 21, 2014. An opening reception will be held Thursday, April 17th from 7-10pm and will feature drinks by Russian Standard. There will be live music on Friday, April 18th from 7-10pm. Film screenings and talks by artists Jose Carlos Casado and Sean Capone will be held on Saturday April 19th from 5-8pm. A private, invite-only, closing reception will be held on Monday, April 21st. Artists included are Chick Bills, Sean Capone, Jose Carlos Casado, Sally Egbert, Cara Enteles, Tapp Francke, Jerome Lucani, Glenn Marshall, Steve Miller and Jeff Muhs.

2014 Columbia University Film Festival to Run 5/2-8

Columbia University School of the Arts Film Program and the Film Society of Lincoln Center will co-present the 27thAnnual Columbia University Film Festival (CUFF), a weeklong program of screenings, dramatic readings and special events in New York. The celebration will continue with events to be announced for June 17-20 in Los Angeles. This marks the third year that the Festival is co-presented by the Film Society.

Shrunken Shakespeare Company (SSC), in association with Joe Paradise, announced today that Nigerian-born Royal Shakespeare Company associate artist Chukwudi Iwuji (The Public/RSC: Anthony and Cleopatra; London Old Vic/BAM: Richard III with Kevin Spacey) has joined the cast of Paul Sorvino's world premiere adaption of Lear as part of their 2014 Fundraiser Gala, including Broadway, Off-Broadway and TV veterans. Singer/songwriter Ruth Carlin returns to the Laurie Beechman Theater this spring with an illuminating exploration of the eclectic repertoire of iconic folkie turned cabaret favorite, Judy Collins. 'A Light in the Window - Songs of Judy Collins.' Performances are May 17th at 7:30pm and June 12th at 7pm. The show will be directed by Scott Barnes, with accompaniment by Carlin's Musical Director, Paul Greenwood, on Piano, Dick Sarpola on bass and John Redsecker on drums.
