Ravinia Festival Announces 2012 Season: Idina Menzel, Barbara Cook & More!

Ravinia Festival President and CEO Welz Kauffman announced the festival's 2012 season, which offers more than 100 separate events exemplifying most musical genres, including the 77th residency of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The summer boasts a variety of music's legends from Philip Glass to James Taylor, along with 43 debuts, including Glee and Wicked star Idina Menzel, reggae master Jimmy Cliff, classic rocker Santana, Grammy-and-Oscar sensation Esperanza Spalding, and Musical America's "conductor of the year" Jaap van Zweden. Ravinia Music Director James Conlon celebrates the 35th anniversary of his own festival debut as his contract is extended through 2014.

Brooklyn Phil Announces Five Beethoven Remix Finalists

The Brooklyn Philharmonic announces five finalists for its community-based BEETHOVEN REMIX PROJECT. Following an open application process coordinated by musician and community organizer Sam Hillmer, where Brooklyn-based DJ's and sound artists were invited to remix the finale of Beethoven's Third Symphony (the Eroica), five finalists have been selected. Tiny Mix Tapes helped spread the word.

Thirteen's AMERICAN MASTERS to Pay Tribute to Jazz Legend Cab Calloway, 2/27

American Masters celebrates 'The Hi De Ho Man's' career and legacy during Black History Month with the new documentary CAB CALLOWAY: SKETCHES premiering nationally Monday, February 27 at 10 p.m. (ET/PT) on PBS (check local listings). In the New York metro-area the film airs Sunday, February 26 at 8 p.m. on THIRTEEN.

'Cab Calloway: Sketches' Premieres 2/26 on THIRTEEN

'Hi de hi de hi de ho!' Charismatic music and dance pioneer Cab Calloway (12-25-1907 - 11-18-94) is an exceptional figure in the history of jazz. As a singer, dancer and bandleader, he charmed audiences around the world with his boundless energy, bravado and elegant showmanship. Calloway was also an ambassador for his race, leading one of the most popular African American big bands during the Harlem Renaissance and jazz and swing eras of the 1930s-40s.

Brooklyn Phil Presents Deborah Buck In Recital

Sunday, January 29 at 2:00pm at the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Philharmonic will present violinist Deborah Buck-concertmaster of the Brooklyn Phil since 2007-in recital with pianist Molly Morkoski.

Linda Eder Plays Feinstein's, 3/13-17

Feinstein's at Loews Regency will continue its Winter/Spring 2012 season with the return of Linda Eder in her new show "Songbirds," which pays tribute to the great ladies of music including Lena Horne, Etta James, Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, Eva Cassidy and more. The engagement will run from March 13 to March 17 at the Loews Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue at 61st Street).

The Public Theater Shifts THE TOTAL BENT Performances to Begin 2/24

The Public Theater announced new February dates today for THE TOTAL BENT by Stew and Heidi Rodewald and directed by Joanna Settle. The shift in dates for this Public Lab production is due to an unforeseen construction-related delay that prevented the show from getting into the theater on the scheduled start date. The Public Theater's building renovation has been underway since fall 2008 and is expected to be completed on time this summer.
