Leslie Uggams will appear at Barnes & Noble to promote her new CD UPTOWN DOWNTOWN as part of the "Live at Barnes & Noble" Series on March 8th at 7p.m.

Tony and Emmy Award-winning Leslie Uggams recently won an Audelco award for her starring turn in "First Breeze of Summer" at the acclaimed off-Broadway Signature Theater. She recently starred as Lena Horne in a pre-Broadway run of "Stormy Weather" at the Pasadena Playhouse. Ms. Uggams' Broadway appearances have included starring alongside James Earl Jones in "On Golden Pond" and co-starring in the Broadway hit "Thoroughly Modern Millie." In 2001, her Broadway portrayal of Ruby in August Wilson's "King Hedley II" was nominated for a Tony Award.

In Uptown Downtown, the legendary star traces her extraordinary career through stories and song, putting her own personal stamp on classics which mark milestones in her Uptown (Harlem) and Downtown (Broadway) careers. “Born in a Trunk” tells of her beginnings as a nine-year-old at the famed Apollo Theatre, opening for greats like Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington. “My Own Morning” and “Being Good” recall her Tony-winning performance in Hallelujah, Baby! in which she made her Broadway debut at the age of 24. Other great hits include “There’s a Boat That’s Leaving for New York,” “Sunny Side of the Street,” “Up on the Roof,” “Hello, Young Lovers,” “Good Morning, Heartache,” “Summertime,” “If He Walked into My Life,” and “Stormy Weather.”
