BWW Review: Community and Unity Overtake Oppression in THE 9TH!

ProArteDanza's latest work, choreographed by Roberto Campanella and Robert Glumbeck, is the impressive result of over a decade of collaboration between its renowned creators. The piece is set to Beethoven's beloved 9th Symphony, and in line with the music, the story unfolds in four movements. Exploring themes of individual versus community, human connection, and breaking down barricades a?" literally and figuratively a?" the work is a demanding, moving piece featuring an impressive ensemble.

ProArteDanza celebrates its 15th anniversary season with the Toronto Premiere of The 9th!, the full-length choreographed imagining of Ludwig van Beethoven's epic 9th Symphony, on stage November 6a?'9, 2019 at 8pm at Harbourfront Centre's Fleck Dance Theatre. Created and co-choreographed by the company's award-winning Artistic Director Roberto Campanella and Artistic Associate Robert Glumbek, this bold and provocative work pays homage to the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, in a fitting tribute to the thrilling physicality of the composer's iconic music. 

World Premiere Musical GOOD FISHERMEN KNOW A LOT ABOUT SEX Opening Soon!

What do you get when you add a grieving family of four to a boatful of local Hawaiian fishermen? The brand new musical Good Fishermen Know A Lot About Sex. Through high hopes and low tides, Ally and her family learn about the cycle of life, how sex and fishing are intimately connected, and that even when faced with the most difficult of circumstances life does go on. AK Ink's production of Good Fishermen Know A Lot About Sex will premiere on the Guild Stage at the Hudson Theatres on October 11th. October is Drug Abuse Prevention Month and all proceeds from the show will go to benefit Opioid Abuse Prevention.

Queer|Art|Film's Fall 2019 Season Announced At IFC Center

Queer|Art, New York City's home for the creative and professional development of LGBTQ+ artists, is pleased to announce a special Fall season of Queer|Art|Film at IFC Center (323 Sixth Avenue at West 3rd St.), September 16-December 2. Organized by guest curators Vivian Crockett, Camilo Godoy, and Carlos Mottaa?"the season, titled Chicas y Fantasmas, explores the shells we inhabit to move through the world. Presented by four contemporary Latinx artists, the season assembles a fierce ensemble of showgirls, cyborgs, glam rockers, and two Chicana teens who defy gendered expectations, ableist norms, and society's limitations to actualize their own self-constructed identities and shape a vision of the world in which they want to live. A full itinerary follows. All screenings begin at 8pm.

American Composers Orchestra Announces 2017-2018 Emerging Composers

American Composers Orchestra continues its commitment to the creation and development of new orchestral music with the announcement of sixteen emerging composers who will participate in its catalytic programs. Six emerging composers will participate in the 27th Annual Underwood New Music Readings on June 21-22, 2018 at a location to be announced. Ten emerging composers receive 2018 EarShot New Music Readings presented by Fort Wayne Philharmonic (February 7, 2018), Charlotte Symphony Orchestra (March 1, 2018), and Jacksonville Symphony (April 20, 2018). EarShot is a partnership between American Composers Orchestra, League of American Orchestras, American Composers Forum, and New Music USA.
