BYE BYE BIRDIE Flies Through Final Preview Drama

Last night, there was certainly more than one kind of drama featured on the BYE BYE BIRDIE stage at the New Henry Miller's Theatre. During this final preview performance, the production went into an unexpected 20 minute hiatus when the electronically controlled set did not clear during a scene change.

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) presents the first new Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie, after a 48 year absence, as the inaugural production of the new Henry Miller's Theatre (124 West 43rd Street) beginning Thursday, September 10th, 2009 with an official opening on Thursday, October 15th, 2009. This will be a limited engagement through January 10th, 2010.

There is no doubt that Bye Bye Birdie is one of this season's most highly anticipated shows. With an all star cast that includes John Stamos and Gina Gershon, and the cache of being one of the most popular musicals of all time, critics and audience members alike are eager to see what this revival will bring--48 years after it last left Broadway. As the New York Times points out in a special Birdie feature today, the show is not an easy revival, and has had a string of productions starring major players (such as Tommy Tune and Ann Reinking in the 1991 road show) that received a lukewarm reception.
