Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie has been recently featured in the news.

The New York Times Arts & Leisure section featured an article by Charles McGrath called '50 years Older, Birdie Returns To The Nest'

It begins: "BYE BYE BIRDIE," which on Thursday opens for its first Broadway revival in a Roundabout production at the newly renovated Henry Miller's Theater, has for years been one of the most produced shows in the United States. Like Disney's "High School Musical," which may overtake it someday, "Birdie" is a standby in high schools, where its appeal is practically guaranteed. It has a large number of teenage parts, most of them easy to sing and perform, and the plot, such as it is, is all about the generation gap. On progressive high school stages these days, it's not unheard of for the principal to take the role of the uptight Mr. MacAfee, who just doesn't understand what's wrong with kids today.

Newsday.com featured an article by Frank Lovece called 'Put on a happy face: 'Bye Bye Birdie' is back'

It begins: One of the last Tony-winning best musicals of the 20th century never to have gotten a Broadway revival - the 1960 teen-idol satire "Bye Bye Birdie" - returns for a scheduled three-month run, starting Thursday.

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) presents the first new Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie, after a 48 year absence, as the inaugural production of the new Henry Miller's Theatre (124 West 43rd Street). This is a limited engagement through January 10th, 2010.

Bye Bye Birdie stars John Stamos (Albert Peterson), Gina Gershon (Rose Alvarez) & Bill Irwin (Mr. Harry MacAfee) with Jayne Houdyshell (Mrs. Mae Peterson) & Dee Hoty (Mrs. MacAfee). The cast will also feature Matt Doyle (Hugo Peabody), Jake Evan Schwencke (Randolph MacAfee), Allie Trimm (Kim MacAfee) and Nolan Gerard Funk as "Conrad Birdie." Robert Longbottom directs and choreographs Bye Bye Birdie with a book by Michael Stewart, music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Lee Adams.

In Bye Bye Birdie, the exuberant rock n' roll musical comedy, it's 1960 and hip-swingin' teen idol superstar Conrad Birdie (Funk) has been drafted into the army. Birdie's manager Albert (Stamos) and his secretary Rosie (Gershon) have cooked up a plan to send him off with a swell new song and one last kiss from a lucky teenage fan... on "The Ed Sullivan Show"!
