Full casting is today announced for the world premiere of the new musical GROUNDHOG DAY, which previews at the Old Vic from July 11 with a press night on August 16. Bend It Like Beckham The Musical recently extended booking at the Phoenix Theatre to 5 March 2016 when the show will then play its final performance at the end of the cast's year-long contract. Rehearsals began for the critically acclaimed production in March 2015 with a company led by Natalie Dew as Jess and Lauren Samuels as Jules. The show transfered to London's West End and opened November 24 to tremendous critical acclaim. Today, Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post that the show is now aiming to open on Broadway in the Spring of 2013, produced by the RSC themselves and overseen by Andre Ptaszynski, who formerly ran Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Really Useful Group.
Following a sensational sell-out season at The Courtyard Theatre, the RSC's production of MATILDA THE MUSICAL transfered to London's West End and opened November 24 to tremendous critical acclaim, and according to Whatsonstage, plans will soon be made concerning bringing the new musical to Broadway. RSC artistic director Michael Boyd announced at a press conference last week that the Mailda team will travel to New York at the end of January to discuss future Broadway plans. Additionally the RSC will 'retain "absolute control" over the production.'
